I ran into an add yesterday on a local online classifed ad in the Toronto area for a "Tamiya 4x4 buggy - Never been run and never completely built"

It was an original Tamiya Avante! I've been trying to find one for a good deal the last twenty years.

When I showed up at the mans house, he led me into his garage and sitting on his table was a dusty Avante sitting on the original box (in bad shape). He proceeded to open the box to show me all "the spare parts" which consisted of the original chassis, suspension arms, turnbuckles, and other bits. This confused me for a second, so I looked at the car on the box and to my confused eyes I noticed a mint carbon fiber kit installed on the car  Yes, the whole kit including the upper and lower, and all the suspension components.

Here's the kicker. He said "So is $80 (CAD) OK? Yes, $80 is fine...

I've allready took it apart, cleaned it, and put most of it back together. I've noticed one wheel cam lock is missing (ordered) and the wing (body and wing are painted red) is bent out of shape from storage (ordered replica)

Forgot to mention - it has a mint technigold installed!

Look for pics soon in my showroom!

You should put your game face on and say $80! I'll give you $40 for it and no tax. You over pay my friend. I'll give you $80 including shipping to Unionsville :P There are still good buys out there and always from the least expected place.

Yeah, you got a pretty good deal given there was also 2 cans of spray paint and a work bench table vice. I can't believe TO still has find like yours. Got to cruise the local garage sale more in the spring and summer and score myself a NIB Blazer, Hilux, Brusier, Mounty for $100.00.

What a great find! How come I didn't see this local ad?! :)

I'm about 15mins West of you, in Scarborough.

I got a similar lot as what you got, about a month ago. Local too, but the stuff was used.

There's a few of us in Toronto that meet every other Sunday morning, if weather permits. If you're interested in meeting some local guys (and find out who else is watching the local classifieds! hahaha). We setup a parking lot track and pretty much run whatever chassis. Guys bring some vintage cars for show and tell, some vintage and modern runners. And most have their own "trade boxes", too.

Thought Id find the stuff here! I waited all day for his call, literally all day. When I thought I'd tinker with my RB5, put some music on... Well, go figure, that's when he called..

I was really upset last night, missing this lot. Still am! When I called him back, you're already on your way home (I imagine with a big grin on your face)..

Nice pickups, for sure!

I remember emailing him before sunrise yesterday and literally "waiting by the phone/computer" all day driving myself nuts!! He has more stuff, but its used. Honesty, your post makes me feel bad as I never expected to upset a fellow member.

Hey, it's all good, all part of the fun! Please don't feel bad. Beat you some other time. :D You contacted him first, I would've backed off had I known that.

I'm going to check out what he has left, tonight. I love Optimas more than anything, so there may still be a deal for me.

Two optimas: one used but completely hopped up with the red "hot-trick"(I think??) stuff. and the other, is just used - I remember seeing a Tamiya technigold motor in one of his cars. Plus a used fox with box, and Big-wig with box. He has lots of tires (new and used) spare parts, controllers, chargers, batteries, and even a couple bodies (one is a new Turbo-optima clear uncut shell).
