Wen I get a nib kit i open the box take in the aromour check everything is there, read through the instructions and if its going to be built (which mine normally are) put the wheels and tyres together.

Does anyone do anything different any kind of nib personal rituals they do if you know what i mean .

I am looking forward to the responses for this one.

Open the box and take a huge sniff of that NIB goodness. Then I read the instruction manual, then compare the listed parts to what's in the box. After that I start cracking open bags and building.

pull everthing out. read the instruction manual. look over the sprues for defects etc, start thinking about colour schemes etc. Buy ball bearing kits (hmmm)

Does this stop them from cracking with age lol.

I usually run to my office (making sure I am along) open the box and as everyone else take a good hard sniff of the NIB and then admire for a few minutes.

Grab the tires and take a big sniff - ahhhhhhhh

Look at all the parts, making sure they are all present and kind of go over in my mind what goes where. Look at the manual, stickers, and any other literature that came with the kit. Put it all back and take some pictures and then dream of the day I get to build it.

When I decide to build one I usually paint the driver and any body parts first and then move onto the body itself. I usually like to have the body done before I start the build that way when I finish the build I get to put the body on and see it completed. I don't usually have a ton of non-interrupted time to build (4 young kids...) so I find painting the drivers shirt or helmet here and there helps to get the body done so when I do get a few hours in a row, I can either sticker the body or build the car itself.

Everyone except Swarm are liars. You take pictures to share the moment with you beloved friends of tc. :D

Taking photos of NIB parts is one thing I don't do. I may take a photo of the box, but this is usually after the chassis is built and I'm not ready to paint the body to add a completed model to my showroom. Once the model is complete I take heaps of photos so I can remember how nice it looked before getting it dirty, then I get my wifey to take lots of photos of it throwing dirt everywhere.

I will however photograph what I get in a secondhand/used model so it's documented on what I recieved verses what I do with it.

If the kit is missing parts, I would then take photos of what I recieved and contact the seller. This is yet to happen. Every kit I've bought has been complete and the need has never arisen.

the only kit that i took pics of the box contents was the super clod, just because the parts took up my enitre dining room table, and i have a big table.

otherwise i just sniff and build, yes i am a sniffer.

That's actually the step I forget to do every time because I'm so excited that the kit arrived... So before I can grab my camera to take pictures of my NIB, I'm already building it... :D

when i receive a new kit, here's my ritual: hide box from wife!!! wait till she's asleep and then add it to the others i have so it looks like i had it for a while. she supports my habit...uhh hobby to a point. :D

Blimey, a lot of rituals here. I usually just rip it open and start building it. I have never checked a kit to see if all the parts are there, but then I've never actually been short-parted and I guess some of you have ?

This.

Building is generally not done until days or weeks later.

I feel this is the forum to admit it, but I too am a NIB sniffer!

You cannot beat that smell, I wonder if there is anybody out there who can tell what a kit is just by smelling it?

Like a fine wine, "Mmm... now... I must be careful here... this is a vigorous... again lively, neat and sharp... oh but what a finish... yes... I think I know this one... yes... is it a Fox? " , "No sir, it's wee wee".

I also take everything out, scan/copy the manual (I never build with an original copy of the manual!), check the contents, decide on and order some hop-ups. Then sadly more often than not, put it all back and stick it on the shelf for later, when I find some time. :D
