Pajero Mtw Binding Steering

Recommended Posts

I get big problems with binding on the steering on my Pajero. It is the vertical turny thing (sorry to get technical!) which transfers the steering movement through the chassis floor. That 'tube' just seems to fill with grit/sand/dust and binds almost solid. Has anyone replaced the 'inner' with a metal 'axle' in bearings with suitably adapted top and bottom for the steering arms? That seems a lot of work though. Is this just me or have I gone wrong somewhere? What does anyone else do?

Mike

There's a tutorial on how to add bearings to the steering crank here. I haven't done this mod myself, but intend to do something similar on my Pajero. The plastic setup does fill with grit and the plastic is a bit too flexible.

get the steering kit from GPM. it works very well. I also have some alum servo mounts for sale.. It really does help with the steering. I got some steerng post reinforcements coming soon. Just waitinf on shop to give me quotes.

You mean yours has steering ?? I'm jealous. :P

Well, not a lot, to be honest! Tamiya are normally so good: this was a bit of a disappointment as a kit, what with the other niggles too.

That was pretty much what I was going to do (except the drill would have slipped and the bearings would be wrong etc etc!) I've just got the GPM upgrade instead because I'm old and lazy!

Thanks very much for such a quick response. I haven't posted on here for well over a year I think as I seemed to stop getting replies and wondered if the forum was dying! Well, whatever it was, there's nothing wrong with it now!

Thanks again

Mike
