Hi all, new the forum and rc'ing in general and have got a little question.

I tested my new 5.5t system today in my df-03, the system worked fine on the bench but in test it seems very erratic. Im getting lots of lag where the car goes like it's got a silvercan in it, this is for a good 10 seconds, then I get a little hesitation where the car slows for just a moment before the whoosh kicks in. It'll then hurtle off for a little while until i have to lift off or brake then im back to the silvercanesque speeds again before the power kicks in again.

I haven't messed with any settings yet so was wondering if there's anyone had the same problem and can give me a shortcut to some smoother running?

Use the programming card to reduce the take off power - can't remember which setting it is off hand, but I had similar problems with my Dark Impact. I set it to the lowest settings and it now starts smoothly every time - and still very quickly - I've not been tempted to change it since...

Thanks I'll have a tinker with the set-up tomoz then. What battery set-up are you using? I think I'm ok, got a new core racing 5000mah nimh with deans connectors so hopefully it's not a issue there?

Did you adjust the gear ratio of the buggy to suit the 5.5 EZ-Run motor? Something around 12:1 FDR would be about right.

can i do this with the extra supplied spur if i buy the pinion? pretty new to all this so forgive my ignorance.

still having issues after setting the punch to minimum, car is great for a couple of minutes then the lag takes over again, power supply issues?

Upon looking through my notes on the DF03, a FDR of around 10.25:1 is best for a 5.5turn motor. I would recommend using a 82T spur and a 25T pinion with your setup. The 82T spur gear is in the slipper clutch set (part #53925) and the 0.5mod DF03 pinons are sold in pairs (part #53922 23T/25T pinion set).

With the standard gearing (78T/26T) fitted it would be quite overgeared, which would make things rather warm after a few minutes of running.

When fitting aftermarket hopup motors, changing the gearing to match the increase in rpm is essential to keep the ESC/motor/battery combination within operational temperatures.

It's parameter 4 - Start Mode/Punch - I have mine set to wuss mode (Level 1) myself :D

i got an 85T spur in the box, which according to instructions is to be used with 53922 set of pinions. so i guess thats my first port of call, not sure if im serious enough at the moment to lay out £40 for the slipper clutch (i might even google it and see what it does :D)

as for the batt/charger ive got a core racing 5000 nimh being charged on an Ansmann powewrjack 6 delta pro. dunno how pro it actually is as it came part of a starter pack from modelzone. esc is soldered to motor and using deans connectors as i read that there might be resistance issues with the tamiya conns. its certainly giving more 100% run time since i lowered the punch settings, but not all the way down through the battery by any means. i havent had any heat issues even after a full battery of stop/start speed. everything was cool enough to hold

Ok the battery setup should cope...

You do see some who buy a high power brushless setup and run it against old, badly charged batteries and wonder why it stutters.

I kind of like this feature of the cheap EZ-Run sensorless systems: it's like driving a real car with a wild cam, forcing you to actually have to drive the car rather than just max-throttling it all the time!!!

Mud.
