Hi all,

I have some old (and rare) HPI Star Dish wheels that I got off on eBay for £3.50 and they measure 54mm X 35mm at the front and 60mm X 37mm at the rear. Anyone know where I can get good tarmac or slick tyres for either front or rear wheels.

Thanks

Will

I don't think your "fronts" are fronts. They sound like old (pre-1990s) 2" diameter rears. The "rears" sound like newer (1990s to now) 2.2" diameter rears.

Good tarmac tyres for buggy rims are rare. Schumacher and Pro-line have done them, possibly in both sizes. 2" diameter tyres in usable condition will be hard to find.

Imex used to make some buggy slicks - I don't know if they are still available or not. I got a couple of sets that came glued to Fighter Buggy stock wheels and they are still going even though they have some cracking. They still perform shockingly well and are quite obviously made for that size wheel. Never saw the model numbers or packaging, but they do say IMEX on them.

Proline makes [or used to make?] a 2.0 rear buggy street tread called the Road Hawg which fits perfectly on DT-02 Sand Viper wheels. I bought 2 sets at a jumble sale at a LHS - they were tossed in a box of old junk but were still NIP. Never seen them anywhere else, but they work quite well and seem to wear well on tarmac. Haven't seen any fronts to match and can't find anything like them on Proline's current website.

I'm sure there are still places to find tires like these if you can't find enough info so you know what you're looking for. Hope that helps a little even though I can't tell you how/where to get them, but at least you know there's something out there [or used to be....]. :P

Thanks, I see what your saying about the wheels being 2 and 2.2 inches but the fronts seem to be 2.1 inches and the rears 2.4 inches. Do you think that 2.2 inch tyres on the 'front' wheels would be fine or should I see if 2 inch ones would strech on? Also the wheels look old and seem to havea deeper dish than the new super 5 hpi wheels so I think they are 1990s.

@sosige the fronts are fronts as they have a bar type fitment and he rears have a 12mm hex.

You're sure the fronts aren't for a Yokomo onroad car? Some of their wheels don't use a hex, only the pin.

Could the rears be for a SuperTen chassis?

Ok, people are getting confused about the wheels-and so am I. I've attached pics to show what the wheels are. Hopefully someone had a set and can tell me what tyres they used on them.

The big wheels look like Superten-sized wheels to me. They fit on Kyosho's Super-sized 1/10th scale cars (eg. Scale Series Optima/Ultima/Lazer-based cars - 235 mm wide).

Well that the plan to fit them on a RS200 Kyosho but there is no tyres for the rear B)

I had a koyosho RS200 and it was 4wd,

normally to prevent wierd handling issues, the front and rear wheel\tyre diameter should be the same

im sure i fitted 2.2 buggy wheels and tyres on a front and rear hex

I'll be buying some Kyosho Rally Block tyres for the front and will have to either try and strech some 2.2" for the rear or not use them thanks,
