OK, I'm totally stumped on how to remove these bushings from a vintage Hilux front axle:-

It looks to me like the bushings are supplied already on if I look at the manual.

And the split pins have been put on with heat and a lot of pressure (I can't budge them).

Any tips for their removal? Or do I send this off to someone with specialist equipment (if so, anyone in the UK) ?

I've seen a lot of showroom Hilux's stated as "fully ball-raced", so I'm sure this is possible. Either I'm missing a trick, or a bit of equipment or a supplier!

Thanks!

Sorry I can't really help but I'm curious on this too. Getting ready to rebuild my Bruiser and it looks like the bushings are a part of the front axle. The picture in the manual just says it's all a part from Blister Pack A.

Short of punching the pins out of the axle on both sides, you can't remove the bushings.

What I did years ago was buy a replacement front axle from Dave Engle:

The axle I got from him was very well made and dropped right into my Mountaineer axle case with absolutely no modifications at all. It was a stock fit.

I don't know if he still makes any of the parts on that page, but try sending him an email (find it on the bottom of the page I linked).

If you do contact him successfully, please post what you find here so others know if he still sells parts for the Bruiser/Mounty/HiLux/Blazer.

Thanks for the link Brian. I think I'll try removing the pins first, but don't have the kit for that so I'll try and source a metalwork shop that can do it for me.

If I fail in that, looks like I can buy the made up item from Dave Engle - I'm certain the Bruiser and Hilux Axle length and gear ratios are the same.

Drill a 2.5mm hole into an small iron block. The block must be long double the pin,

Then put the pin in the hole and put all in your vice. Gently close the vice since the jaws will push the pin all in the axle ball.

You will then be able to pull the pin out with a clamp.

That's exactly what I did,but i used a piece of aluminium
