Will they be re-enforcing the top front shock mount? ANytime I went over a jump they used to crack and you had to replce the whole fornt gearbox, expensive and annoying. I ended up glueing the parts with metal to make it stronger.

Perhaps the plastic they use now are more resiliant and less prone to crack compare to the 1980s plastic. I can't see how they can reinforce it without creating a new front gear box or some new redesign in the front.

How are rcchamp for dealing with? ie reliable, reasonable shipping charges, etc? I'm wary of ordering from abroad as I was stung once with the tax from the US, but by the time UK stockists add their markup, etc I begrudge paying the extra in the UK - Some people you just can't please

They are good.

Factor the tax into your purchase cost and be pleasantly surprised if you're not charged.

They only ship EMS AFAIK so the postage is quite high but you get the car within 2-4 days after payment. They can declare any value you want for the package. This minimize the custom. I think a lot of people here order from StelleModels but I never tried them. I've order many items from RCChamp and I'm very happy with their services.

You can already pre-order them from rc-champ. The price they quoted me was 31,000Yen which was what they got from the manufacturer but of course price may vary as it gets closer to the release date. I'm just hoping the Yen value to drop

I'm betting they will announce more little improvements before the release date.

That's a heck of a difference from 52000Yen, thank goodness. I'm pretty sure Stella will be able to offer it for $400, hopefully less.

I can also vouch for rc-champ he always keeps you informed on what is happening and he is very prompt with postal orders ,He usually employs more staff when big re releases come out to fill all the pre-orders.

So the car come will come with the original gold shocks...great news. Any mods to them will be internal and unnoticeable from the exterior.

This looks to be the best re-re yet.

Reading on their page the bit about the shocks:

"4. Easier Damper Maintenance

The gold-colored oil damper cylinders feature bottom caps for easier maintenance such as replacing o-rings."

Originals had the cap on the top, seems like these will be different, unless I am reading into this wrong?

I think that is in reference to the seals at the bottom, before like the HI-Caps the seals are preinstaled and kept in place with a c-clip. Modern dampers, starting with the sleaved Dyna Storm shock have had a cap on the bottom of the shock to ease maintance and replacemet of the seals at the bottom of the shock.

I just checked and I see BuyItNow Avantes and Egress´ for 600-ish GBP - Is there a considerable price drop already then, or not? (I never checked the prices of the Avante etc).

Better to keep an eye on completed items going forward, rather than what people are asking and not selling.

The new ones will be different. As I recall, the older ones had o-rings in the bottom bu it was secure by 1 small e-clip (which was annoying!). The new ones will be similar to any modern shocks with a screwable cap at the bottom for easier maintainence and probably less leak? I was kinda hoping for some sorta Gold Aeration TRF dampers

Yeah then I'll be able to fix some of my incomplete ones... dreams are free but since I would have bet on the Egress as a re-re over the Avante anyway (well, I would have bet on neither actually), then perhaps dreams will come true.

+1 on that...Everyone said Tamiya would never re re the Sand Scorcher but they did then everyone was saying no way will the Avante be re re and now it's coming in Feb 2011. Never say never when it comes to Tamiya.

Imagine if they were strategically trying to undermine the grey market for vintage kits and parts? I'm not suggesting they are but it is viable.

It would be great if the plastic on the re-re Avante is of the glass fiber type like the new buggies. We know now, comparing old runners with new ones, that the re-re DS plastic composition was a different ratio from the original. I think at least can expect a similar thing with the Avante. Lots of great tweaks.
