Is that part that you pictured a Composite plastic ( Glass Filled Nylon ) part or a normal weak Tamiya Nylon-66 part (same as e.g. Top Force) parts?

Cheers,

Alistair G.

I cant remember :P but I do remember that it used to break right where the upright joined the gearbox casing, maybe I was the only one as no one else has mentioned it lol

Can't beat the looks of cam-locks and Supergrippers though.
What makes you say that?

I really like the cam-lock look as well for vintage... :P

Oh yeah, I guess I didn't read it properly to begin with. As far as looks go, the original wheels & tires are the best. For running, some modern 2.2" rims w/ modern sticky tires are ideal. Even the standard DF03/DB01 tires are quite nice on the street....

I know the new uprights look a tad "unfinished" but I actually like their meaty, substantial look. Instills some confidence with an industrial appearance.

It will indeed be a tougher part than the original, but that might also be the choice of material and the way of producing the parts. The new ones are machined, which leaves more choices in types of aluminum than moulding them, like the originals seem to have been. I appreciate the development and effort they put into making this car better suited for mass use and the expectations regarding reliability by the average potential buyer/driver of one of these :P

I also like the upgrade from the original driveshafts to WO Universals. If you like it or not, these are also used on modern TRF cars, and in that aspect they really didn't compromise on performance, they just cut a bit on production costs and made parts availability better for us too! (Because let's face it, it's only because it's the Avante that you'll pay this kind of money for it... it's not the mindblowing performance of it, as I bet a DB01 or even a DF03 will let it eat dust. So yeah, savings on costs (and therefor sales price) without too big compromises are a good thing) :D

Can anyone tell if they strengthened the front shock mounts? They look the same.

There's no mentioned of it being strengthen. Maybe they are working on it hence the February release date? I took a look at the manual and I can see how they can improve it but it might means extending the bottom chassis all the way to the front and angle it appropriately. They can cut off the gear box just where the front shock tower starts and keep that the same. But at the extended chassis, have a aluminum mount for a CF front shock tower that's similarly shaped. In addition the amount can also reinforced the flexible crash tube for the front arms. This might end up costing more and might even upset some people.

I thought Tamiya could reinforce the front shock tower by extending an L-shaped bracket to each side of the shock tower from the metal brace that provide the bracket to hold the front of the polycarbonate body. Hmm I might make one myself when I have the time :D

Either that or they could leave it weak and sell thousands upon thousands of A parts as spares LMAO.

The front practice bumper is of a new type. Bulkier and molded to complement the front bumper. Previously was just a flat piece of flexible "ice-cream stick" .

G parts Bumper was also smaller than what looks like the re-re version is and the Practice bumper was on the E Parts originally.

so whats wrong with the GT tuned motor???

The whats wrong is probably because Iit's not a full blown copy of the vintage Technigold Motor. Just a thought......

While the GT-tuned motor is a fine motor, most feel the Superstock RZ/TZ/BZ are closer to modern Technigold equivalents in terms of specs. For the diehard however, nothing replaces the Technigold. As nice as a new Technigold would be, not having it doesn't bother me in the least as the Avante was sold both with and without the motor originally anyway.

Finally I have a chance to own a Avante. After the re-re of the Hotshot I got my old vintage feeling bakc as af I never had before.

I understand that for some colelctors this will be 'disapointing' but on the other hand, a NIB original Avante will keep it's worth.

For me, I am standing in line to pre-order at different sites!!

You know what? I'd never even heard of the Avante when I was a kid lusting after hobby R/C's and I'm still going to get one of these when it's released (job and funds willing) It's simply a stunning piece of kit any way you look at it and it's pretty unlikely I'll break anything with the mild level of abuse I put my cars through.

^^ depends what you HIT, bud ;)

The gearboxes are pretty bulletproof, never had to change gearsets yet.

But if you go crazy doing donuts continuously daresay the diffs will probbaly wear thru their case first.

Well, i am going to try to get hold of one for sure..

Never had one when they first came around, and later on, i had a Vanquish, which i simply killed, running it to the ground, but i loved running it, and a i guess the Avante is even better than the Vanquish, so i am waiting for it to arrive..

Don´t care about box or blisters, as i just want to build it and run it..... Hard........ And perhaps stick something in it that rhymes with "ush-ess".. ;)

Cheers..

I wonder how the Avante will go with a Novak 4.5 in it?

Like a cut cat.

In a straight line.

Well too much power for the capabilities of the chassis.

Likely to wreck anything?

Just your pride... :D

Edit: You still got that Dyna Storm? Just picked one up myself to build... ;)
