Heh heh. Why introduce the family members & not let us shake their hands? Why Tamiya tease us? :P I hope & keep my fingers crossed....

You could just make your own. Ive got a Avante Graphite Chassis set, the uber rare Egress shock tower and front shock mounts, and replica decals and bodies are available. Purchase a new Avante and create your won. I dont think Tamiya will do an Egress for the same reason they didnt do an EVO. They would compete too much with their top of the line current shaft and belt buggies.

I doubt serious racer will consider these buggies

Serious no, you are like 10000000000000000000000% correct, Tamiya fans getting back in the game that want something slightly competitive, yes. Just like real race cars, modern fighter jets etc, its 90% about the person at the controls. I believe a Egress or TF EVO in the hands of someone waaaaaaaaaay better than me could get one of those buggies in the Top ten against modern cars.

I think he meant in terms of sales, not performance. Besides the allure of a vintage style vs. modern homogeneous plays a factor, especially at Tamiya prices. Now with Losi's game changing "22," I would never buy a 201x.

I'll get flamed for saying this, but pretty much everything modern from Tamiya doesn't do it for me anymore. I only care about the vintage stuff. The cost of things is not big T's fault. But, the lack of imagination is. I predict tough times for our favorite R/C company, considering the economy around the world, especially in their biggest markets. I think Mr. T knows it, and that is partially why there are these re-releases. It's a brilliant move.

There may be a cooling off with the re-re's at some point, but you can bet we will see more of them in the future. Isn't the FAV going to be re-released?

I hole hardily agree, I even started a thread a few months ago about cars lacking sole. The fun things about the Astute, Avante, Egress, Top Force etc is that they had an intangible "something" that you cant put your finger on. They weren't the best buggies but they could hold their own and were great looking doing it and fun to build. The Re'res capture that fun, yes nostalgia factors in, but being able to ring out an Avante again on the track that is 8/10's as fast as the brand x xyz car but looks 100% better is what it is all about. RC cars originally got HUGE because it was fun, when individuals had to worry about matching batteries, timing motors, and gluing tires for that extra stick the incense was gone. The Re're are bringing some of that fun back.

I agree with GTOdd, they are bringing the fun back. Remember you build your first Tamiya? It was something special not to perfom in some high end race class but the design was special. Take a look at todays competition cars like the TRF502X, the Yokomo B-MAX4, Asso B44. They look al the same don't they? They are copying eachother succes to perform better at the races. When you take a look at a Boomerang, Avante, Hornet you see an unique car not a cloned car!

i totally agree, new ones just dont have the character and you just never seem to treasure it like your older ones

Check out the avante details in Tamiya RC book in the Japanese tamiya website http://www.tamiya.com/japan/products/63408...t2011/index.htm

Hmm, I thought I saw a Vanquish/egress/avante2001 at the bottom.

All the spare parts....

Is this the big bang before the re-re series ends ie. The production of the 4 cars in the avante series. Lol

I wouldn't read anything into the other 3 being included in that article, they are probably just pointing out what other cars were spawned from the original Avante design. Having said that I do think that the Egress has got to have a decent chance of a revival.

If you use the 2011 Avante as shelfqueen I would put a Technigold in it. If you are using the car for bashing or clubracing I would use a brushless setup.

Where's the best place to pre-order some of these in Netherlands, Germany, Belgium or even France?

Just looking to minimise shipping and tax hassles.

Not, perhaps the European importer in Germany: Dickie Tamiya. In the Netherlands the kit will be too expensive. That is why I pre-ordered in Japan.

Ok where is mt tq splitter set? Dieing to start building something!

PS

The Tamiya site has now posted pics of the new Avante along with the OG. Is it me or does it look like Tamiya used a slightly lighter blue for the 2011 model?

The old Avante is photographed against a black background, the new one's against a white - could that possibly have anything to do with one appearing to be 'lighter' than the other?

Until you get an old and new one side-by-side, it'd be pretty much impossible to say whether one's lighter than the other, especially when you look at the wheel and tyre colour too

One was photographed with film in the 80's, and probably printed in a catalog and then scanned before being uploaded.

The other was photographed with a modern digital camera.

Lighting angles etc were also different.

Color balance is affected every step of the way, so it's very hard to make a direct comparison.

I think the rerelease will be also painted with PS16 metallic blue. So it doesn't matter, because it's the same colour.

Agreed. The only difference would be if the supplier of paint for Tamiya changed the formula, ratios or whatever, and there is a tiny variation. But I doubt that. Yonez is right.
