Very nice TamiyaDan

I have some covers for my runner on the way but I thought thay covered the hole balljont not just the tip :/

I can see the sides of my one getting pretty scratched up at the back from stones from the front wheels

Ah you actually have an option there the trade off if they will be even harder to install.

The instruction tell you to cut the part of the boot that covers the body of the ball joint at the center band.

If you don't cut them the boot is about 5-7mm longer and will cover much of the ball joint.

Option 2 slide on black heat shrink tubing on the ends of the ball joints, shrink them, then install the hardware, then install the boots as usual.

That should look pretty trick and cover the entire boot.

Sounds like a plan!

I'll have to pop to maplin and pic some up B)

Great builds there guys. I've been holding off from building mine because I wanted to get the driver and body painted first but today I seem to have given in and opened up my kit.

While I'm waiting on my superglue to dry I'd like to know... How did everyone open their blister packs? I've only managed to 'open' one side so far. The blisters are stuck on really firmly with no gaps anywhere around the plastic. The last time I had blisters to open I slid a scalpel into a gap and slowly freed the plastic away from the cardboard. This isn't possible this time around because the blisters are so well attached. On the one side I've 'opened' I used my heat gun to warm up them up from the carboard side and slowly peeled the plastic away when the glue became tacky. It's not the cleanest job, a lot of the colour lifted, but the blisters have stayed intact and I haven't had to cut anything. Is it worth the effort or should I just cut everything open?

I just slashed away at the blisters to get at the parts as for me the box is (has) gone in the bin as this ones a runner so no box required to clutter up my hobby room, maybe thats not the answer for most but probably for a few members lol.

Cheers

Same as the guys above... now.

I went through phases. I raced Top Force Evo's back in the day and built about six, I just tore the cardboard backs off those. Then I got older and blister packs went away so I started taking more care and preserving the cardboard as well as just cutting enough plastic around the base to flip it up and extricate the part needed. Now I'm just too impatient for that and don't really appreciate the value of a box and inserts for a built kit (perhaps the box top but not the rest). So I just either slice them with a blade or rip them up... slicing is much easier I've found... duh to me.

Oh well.... Jason jr-rc told me that Tamiya are out of stock with the Avante Tyres! B) Do you all think that there will be no more tyres being produced??

Re-re-sellers may own the market now!..... Thanks...

Guess we must all think positive of more being produced from Tamiya in time, and not give in to buying from the re-re tyre sellers growing prices...

Cheers

Is this a rhetorical question or are you actually being serious????

Of coarse im all serious Rosey.... I would'nt never play on such a delicate subject.... B) Have to wait and see & i and all of us guess, quite sure Tamiya factory will have to reproduce more Avante tyres....

I was informed earlier today that when one seller (the cheapest) sold out of his tyres one of the other sellers put his prices up by £3, sneaky!!

I'm pretty sure Tamiya will have those tires in stock. They usually make a lot of tires for the re-releases.. Something for everyone to play with... B)

Don't worry. Avante is a 58xxx kit. Parts will be produced for a longer time

Yay! B) Just finished painting my runner bodyshell, wing and underchassis.

Ran out of airbrush cleaner though. I'm going to have to wait until next week before I can pick up another can as well as the one missing paint for the driver. I'm broke. :)

The next question now points to if the Avante can clear a double or triple jump without breakages. Remember that the front suspension is attached to the gearbox and involves a pair of diecast rocker arms which breaks easily. If you have seen the late 80s' off road tracks, the jumps are small.

I also wonder if an Egress or a Boomerang can clear the double or triple jumps. Searched through YouTube but no examples :)

I gave in to temptation!

1 Avante on it's way to me, and by the sounds of things from the Tamiya rep there aren't a lot left now in the UK. Seems stocks of the cars are not that high yet so this could well become a bit like the Sand Scorcher was.

They're certainly not flying off the shelves, but there aren't a lot knocking around full stop apparently.

Who cares though?

As a kid I had posters on my wall of the Avante from Radio Controlled Model Car magazine, and the Tamiya catalogue. Never knew that they were fragile, just that it was the most amazing four wheel drive buggy that Tamiya made, and that I never would be able to afford one.

Now I can, and I'm itching to get my mitts on it.......and I'm **** well going to run it too!

Top Force, Manta Ray & Thundershot were too. They were in production for the grand total of approximately 4 months so don't bank on the 58xxx meaning anything.

http://www.fusionhobbies.com/ProductDetail...uctCode=TA58489

fusion dropped there price to £399 now, dont think they'd do that if they were flying off the shelves,

They were never going to sell very well at UK stockists at £450 a pop. However Stella have been sold out for a couple of weeks now and there are already 35 of them in the showrooms so people are buying them...just not within the UK.

The poor old Brit hobby shops were always gonna have to drop their asking price but I didn't expect it to be so soon.
