This is clearly photoshopped 1988 original box art.

-Lars

That's what I was assuming, looking at the quality of the pictures - the old pictures are visible drawn, whilst the modern exploded views, pictures etc are clearly made on the computer (Sharper and smoother lines).

By the way, I never new the Avante had a system to 'survive' impacts on the front suspension! :( Very, very cool! I knew it was overengineered, but that overengineered!? I did like the car already but never understood why people would spend so much money on one - now though, I think I do :)

Considering the frequency with which it seems the Avante front uprights/suspension broke/bent, it can't have been terribly successful!

When one part is reinforced, the next weak part takes the punishment, there's no end to all these r/c part carnage

This buggy never really had any appeal for me back when I started collecting but with time I started to like it ,when I first saw it a few years ago I just thought it was another buggy but since then I have started to appreciate the engineering that has gone into this buggy .

Now its gotten to the point where I must have 1 or 2 in my collection I have a built one and I marvel at the way it was made .

Funny how tastes change over time.

Its good that Tamiya are re releasing with all the bells and whistles it will appeal to the builder , collector.

The sky is the limit with these recent re releases anything is possible now .

koffkoff Schumacher CAT had it first... who copied who? :D

This is certainly big news. And hopefully it will be affordable. But, I am puzzled as to why Tamiya would change the chassis material from the original FRP to carbon. The only reason I can think of is parts commonality for a future Egress re-release. Otherwise, why go through the trouble and cost with original details like blister packs etc., if the chassis material is different, costs more too.

Plastic and metal are different story. Considering how fragile the original Avante was, they have to be stronger plastics and metals.

:D I didn't know that either. I'd be collecting Schumachers too if I had the money to collect more than one brand ;) Still, pretty darn cool to see it on the Avante :P

A lot of magazine reviews joke that you can't build a Schumacher without using rubber bands - they used to hold the front end together, but on the latest Cougar they only hold the rear wing on

:D Well, you have to admit it sounds a little make-shift. And whereas the Avante system sounds and looks pretty sophisticated (because it is perhaps), the rubber bands probably work better simply because the system is lighter (which does make the performance better I guess) ;)

Tamiya still do an impact shock protection system on the front end of the NDF-01 chassis. It is spring loaded, and very effective

When I was a kid I remember seeing it for about 300 dollars durring the 88-89 time frame. Alot of money for a 12 year old on lawn mowing money.

Anyone have a retail US street price of the Avante when it came out in 88? Just wondering what it cost then.

Thanks

John

If I remember correctly it was a little over £200 here in the UK for the kit alone. A LOT of money in 1988.

What I want to know is...what is it specifically about the kit that makes it so expensive? I know there are the aluminium parts but there does not seem to be much to them? Is FRP an expensive material to produce?

What I want to know is what motor will it be released with? A new brushed Techigold or a brushless kit of some description and something worthy of being put into a top line car?

It won't be a Technigold.

I would guess it will either come with no motor, or it will come with a modern tuned brushed motor with a gold coloured can.

I don't own a scanner, so here is a picture from the 1989 Tower Hobbies catalog. The 1988 catalog didn't have it listed that I could find.

Prices are in US Dollars:

Edit: The price on the left is the suggested retail price. The price on the right is the Tower Hobbies price.

Yep, my guess is a Tamiya Super Stock TZ/BZ in a gold theme.

Agreed. My guess is that it will come with a motor. We can expect the re-re Avante to be like the re-re Dyna Storm. Heck, it could even be the same motor as the DS, just gold colored. Or, a non branded BZ motor.

Speculation is fun. Only ~3 months till show time.

I'm sure we'll know everything about it long before it hits the shelves.

I remember seeing the Avante in LHS. One shop/track had it at $325 (lowest price) and the others were from $350-$400 back then.

I hope Tamiya address a few weaknesses in Avante.

1) weak gearbox especially where the screwhead holds the bottom gearbox casing. I understand the gearboxes were glass-filled plastic but they crack.

2) the rear trailing arm upright holder.

3) the front diecast metal upright holder . Although they rectified with thicker diecast, it still prone to breakage.

4) the front rocker arm for frontal shock absorption , it's also diecast type.

5) soft aluminum suspension rods. I replaced them with the optional titanium rods. At least use steel rods.

In 1988, I bought mine at Singapore S$380 with technigold motor.

I think the only information we got was these C-hubs will not be die-cast but instead machined aluminum pieces.
