Thanks Champ85, hopefully like most of the other re-re's that will indicate what the retail price will be. I can swing $400, but I was thinking it was going to come back in the $500+ range.

The original will still be collectible but for people who can't afford the original and just don't have the patience to deal with finding the correct parts, etc the re-release will be good enough.

I think it´s also because many collectors will fear a drop in value - that they are actually creating themselves right now, because so many people are putting their Avante(s) for sale

Yes, if you've got a few bodies that you were hoping to sell for hundreds you've just been lucked out.

I would much rather make a few dollars on a original now (which I just did) and buy the re-release with money left over in my pocket. It has nothing to do with the age or how collectible it is - it's the buggy itself as to why it's in my collection. At least for me. So If I own an original, and a re-release is rumored - go look on eBay for mine.

Oh, no argument there, that's just smart.

My point was if people have been hoarding original Avante parts to resell they have a very small window before the value drops out of the market. Prices would have gradually increased until about now, they'll hang for a little and then crash if recent trends are anything to go by.

I didn't mean to suggest that you shouldn't take advantage of that window however...

I thought the same thing at first, but then on second thought.. knowing how much blood, sweat and tears i poured into my avante... no way I could part with it! Besides, I think I saw they are going to change the shocks, I think the shocks that are on the avante are very iconic, not just for the color, but shape etc.

Also, if your looking for an avante, you most likely are in the "know" about things, most likely you would know the re-re is coming since vintage tamiya collectors im sure are a small bunch in the grand scheme of things... given that and the rash of collectors running to cash out on ebay, prices are going to go down fast from where they were.. I'm interested to see how well the current crop does in price, but im already seeing prices well below what I would even consider "breaking even" from a cost per perspective. I'm sure NIB will still command a premium though.

Ok now who wants to sell me some posi joints!? Give um up. I need front and rears for my egress!

New update on Tamiyablog. Doesn't shed much light, but does say the first batch includes a T shirt.

To be released February 11, 2011.

The basic configuration of the original boasted a high driving performance and high quality without changing up and the strength of the material such as changing the chassis parts. The current RC mechanism is in support of travel such as a battery. Aluminum parts increased the intensity of the front knuckle, double deck change the purpose of increased strength carbon material. Ordered structure and upscale parts. Only the first production run will be shipped with Avante T-shirt.

Tamiya japan has a full site up on the new re avante if you google translate it ,it will list all the changes made. It's pretty much beefed up in alots of ways while retaining the same shape/ look even the body is thicker

Will they be re-enforcing the top front shock mount? ANytime I went over a jump they used to crack and you had to replce the whole fornt gearbox, expensive and annoying. I ended up glueing the parts with metal to make it stronger.

Cant wait for it still, fantastic car B)

So the car come will come with the original gold shocks...great news. Any mods to them will be internal and unnoticeable from the exterior.

This looks to be the best re-re yet. B)

Also..I'm liking the way they are marketing this thing. It's like..."You see all of these clever ideas used on your modern buggies? Well THIS is where it started!"

Mr Tamiya is beating his chest out. B)

I feal like a kid again! I use to check this forum once in a blue moon to see what was in the news. But now, I check this one thread atleast three times a day for more news. I just checked out the Japanese page with the Avante information. Looks like we will be getting a 99.9% representation of the 1988 model. Im going to purchase an extra top plate, dremel it out and make room for a brushless motor and have some fun, Long live the Avnate. And with a plethora of spare parts I wont feal bad running it, my 1988 vintage might get jealous, she hasnt seen dirt since the late 1990's. Now if only I could find one of those big Avante display posters that use to hang in the Hobby Shops.

Was "Spacetech Engineering" a real company? If it was then I imagine that is a fairly significant decal change we will see from the original.

Also note that amongst the changes detailed there is no mention of the motor. Maybe the Technigold is making a comeback after all?

The english page on Tamiya.com shows the individual parts laid out, including a technigold motor and what looks like a cpr unit - does anyone know if this picture is taken from the original kit? The list of improvements on the 2011 model doesn't mention motor/esc.

From the site:

The “Avante” logo and rear wing sticker will remain the same as the original. Other stickers will be of a new Tamiya design.

So, if you've got original decals, keep them, don't sell them in a fire sale.

That's an original. The photo is taken from the 1988 guide book. http://www.tamiyabase.com/Guide-books/Guide-book-1988.html

I'll just be buying some repros from ebay seller screenprintdigital. They are superb, as good as originals IMO. Certainly won't be forking out the £100 that people want for a vintage set!

You can already pre-order them from rc-champ. The price they quoted me was 31,000Yen which was what they got from the manufacturer but of course price may vary as it gets closer to the release date. I'm just hoping the Yen value to drop B)

I'm betting they will announce more little improvements before the release date.
