Modified Racing Buggies. Pics Please

Recommended Posts

Inspired by one of Chris's many posts, and also by some stuff from others including Steve H, I would love to use this thread for users to post pics and details of there Rough Riders, Sand Scorchers, Ford Rangers and Superchamps that are not quite as Tamiya intented!!

Mr. Twinset has a nice example, but I think the best so far is Daz's 6 wheeler.

Let's see what you have!

My own one is in bits in 3 separate countries right now, but you will be seeing pics of it by Christmas, should be good!!

Stu, most everyone has seen my Rough rider runner

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=418&id=34

Current hop-ups include full ball bearings, Proline wheels with RCH aluminum wheel covers, RCH aluminum chassis. CRP coil over springs, CRP Brass gear,CRP aluminum Rear guard, MIP top shaft, Race prep front bumper. Superchamp steering rods and ball ends. Tamiya Black sprint motor. I have a few more hop ups but have not installed them. They include CRP rear axles, MRP Lexan radio box and a CRP front tower saver, CRP aluminum roll cage.

You can go overboard on the hops on this car. I wanted to keep it somewhat original looking. I definetly wanted to be able to use the original body. The CRP rear roll cage, while looks killer, won't let me use the original body.

Every time I look at this it gets cooler - someone had a lot of time to play with - You know I said the head was an on/off switch, it isn't. I just saw another linkage from the steering servo, so when the car turns left, so does the drivers head! This is mental! dunno what to do with it now!

Not sure if this is what you had in mind stu, but here goes...

BTW I didn't do any of this - it was like it when I found it. Has some homemade(?) type mono shock on the rear and some of the wholes on the gearbox have been filled with silicon sealant.

Check this out - http://www.andy.pentangle.co.uk/DSCF0001.AVI

You'll have to download it (960k)

Thought this was a good idea too, no slop in rear axles (held on with grub screw)

Great - started off as a resto, now can't touch it because of oddity value a.jpg

'Z' shaped linkage connects into brass linkage (pointing at 3 o'clock)

1.jpg

This is connected to square socket that passes thro receiver tray lid

2.jpg

Drivers head is floating and has square pin fixed to it, sticking out of underside, which locates in socket in lid

5.jpg

That makes 'freaky driver bloke' turn his head

3.jpg

Don't go having nightmares now!

Thats an inovative set up. I would hate to cut up a radio box to do it. May if I used a mcro servo mounted behind the driver. then use a y-harness off of the steering servo

It'd really only require 1 hole thro the lid, with an ESC you wouldn't need the 4 AA's anyway, just run it all from the hump

I love the RR with holes. How much weight does that save ( i guess its not much but every little helps. ) What other car fronts have people put on their cars? I think its time to find my hacksaw again ( watch out rough riders, here i come...

Great to see so many non shelf queens !!

Chris's car has a Mardave Apache front end fitted to it, it was a common replacement back in the mid 80's, cost about £4 total !! and bolted straight on, and considerably more reliable too.
