I dunno I you have figured this out yet, but I see now that the M01 is the same as the M02, you've just got to swith some parts from the front to the rear and from the rear to the front. Then you let it drive in reverse et voilà! It works! I've just restored my Mini Cooper and I found it out when I saw the steering mounting posts on the BACK off the car...hmmmzzz....icon_smile_shock.gif You might already have noticed it but I was really surprised when I saw it!

My dad doesn't believe me and I'm going to prove it to him. (Maybe I can make a good bet? Want to know for sure if I'm right first... icon_smile_wink.gif ) I want to make it an M02 and get myself a body of an Austin Healy Sprite Mk.1, a.k.a the frogeye. Anybody got an idea how I can get it / make this myself? And of what material? It would be to cool if I'd have my dad's car in 1/10 scale.... I could make working headlights etc. too! That would be awesome icon_smile_cool.gif (I hope I don't have to show you a real frogeye, most of you probably know what I mean and there's always Google... icon_smile_wink.gif )

(If you think this isn't supposed to be in 'Tamiya vintage discussions', well, the Mini Cooper is #149. 'Vintage' is from #1 to 150 according to the description at the main forum page... icon_smile_wink.gif )

Funny you said that - I used to race a M01(Mini)in Eurocup a few years ago. On some fast, grippy tracks I (and other competitors) used to convert front wheel drive cars into rear wheel drive. In rain when the track was waterlogged you used to get alot of front wheel drive M02M Mazdas (Euros).

Yup... M01 = M02... icon_smile_cool.gif

Some folk have even done twin-motor 4WDs!

Only problem is that the front motor drives

the 'wrong' way... the difference is pretty negligible

if running stock 540s, but mod motors will hate it.

You need to use reverse-timed motors if doing so

(look for the motors sold in pairs for ClodBuster),

or retime them yourself.

It used to be a 'fair' tradeoff...

1) a reverse motor with better FWD handling, or

2) faster motor with RWD's twitchiness

... until the M03 came along!!

maybe I can make a twin motor with 4WD and 4W steering! icon_smile_tongue.gif

I'll call it 'ode to porsche 959' LOL icon_smile_big.gif

First get another one to do so... icon_smile_wink.gif

Do you guys know what wheelbase it will get when adding 2 mini front ends to a mini chassis? icon_smile_shock.gif will it get about 257mm or something? i think it wil get the M01M or M01L size or something (if the M01L exists) lol icon_smile.gif

And are the chassis plates of the Renault Clio Williams the same as those for the Taisan Starcard Porsche 911 (993)? then I'll may get mysell a crappy one and get all the opions of my clio on it...cool! icon_smile_big.gif

If memory serves the Clio Williams is a FF01S chassis - full width 180mm but just a little shorter than standard. It is not a Mini 160mm chassis.

Isn't Taisan a TA02 4WD?

Both the Taisan Starcard Porsche TA02 and Renault Clio FF01 are shortened wheelbase, but both use the standard TA02/FF01 tub (or FRP chassis or carbon-fiber chassis upgrade plates). The Porsche's wheelbase was shortened by simply flipping the rear A-arms, the rear dogbones then angled forward inside of straight out. The Clio's wheelbase was shortened by assembling the rear section differently: use the aft set of holes in part B5 (the part the rear bulkhead fits into) instead of the forward holes when inserting into the rear box B6. Also, the rear bulkhead and shocks are flipped 180 deg, so that the body posts face toward the front of the car. Much easier to visualize if you have the manual, on page 8.

Thnx for the tip. so I can use the carbon chassis plates of my Clio on a Taisan Porsche. Maybe I'll go look for one.

icon_smile_question.gif Page 8 for which manual do I need to look at: the Clio's or the Porsche's? The Clio's manual isn't avaliable online here (yet), the Taisan Porsche's IS. Maybe someone can get this Clio manual online? icon_smile_wink.gif I want to post some of my manuals as well but I don't find time to do so... icon_smile_dissapprove.gif I have some not avaliable on the list... icon_smile.gif

icon_smile_question.gif Something different here: Looking for a Taisan Porsche I saw a nice Porsche GT1 (TA03R-S, #58193) It's been driven about 20 times and has the the manual as well as the box. I looks good and has origional colors / decals. But the owner mentioned the body was 95%, it has one little crack in it (don't know where). It doesn't come with a radio and other stuff, just the car. Do you know what to pay for such car? (in €) I was looking at one of those in my RC guide book when I was young and I loved it's detailed body. I think I should get it before I'll be sorry. icon_smile.gif Are these avaliable new these days, and if so, for how much (in Holland)? Not that I really want it THAT bad for now, I like it and if you say it's cheap... well, you know... icon_smile_wink.gif

I might get my parents crazy enough to let me get it... icon_smile_big.gif Maybe as a 'Sinterklaas' present... icon_smile_big.gif That would be neat, my parents are bad at making up a present for me since we have got so many and don't want to make us have ridiculously much. icon_smile_wink.gif

To those wo don't knowb (all non-Dutchies I presume): Sinterklaas is some kind of Christmas without a tree we have here in Holland, and it is celebrated on the 5th of December. Santa Claus is based on Sinterklaas. We lucky ******** get to have our presents earlier....lol icon_smile_evil.gif Though we celebrate them both, we only get presents on Sinterklaas (my parents aren't THAT stupid...D'oh! icon_smile_sad.gificon_smile_tongue.gif)

Sjoerd,

My page 8 reference was to the Clio manual. You can see what I'm talking about on this page of the Accord FWD manual:

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/manual.asp?id=192

On page 07, step 8, use the holes in the middle of B5 when attaching to B6, and flip part B3 180 deg. You can then see in the side view (lower left of step 8 illustration) how this will shortenen the assembly and thus reduce the wheelbase. As I mentioned, when you install the rear body posts they will face towards the front of the car, as required for the Clio (and Golf V6) body. Also, you can use the Toyota Corolla WRC body on this shortened chassis, but use TA03 rear posts that are straight instead of L-shaped.

I, like you, have several manuals that I would like to scan and submit, but where does all the time go before we get to our hobby things?

As for the Porsche GT1, they are still available here in the US from retailers. Tower has it for $133 US:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti00...=1&I=LH2462&P=1

For a used one as you describe, I would say about $70 US.

And Happy Sinterklaas in advance, thanks for sharing that, I wasn't aware of that holiday and tradition. So for Sinterklass, you have presents and no tree, Christmas has a tree and no presents? I think you should have presents for both holidays icon_smile.gif

Thanx Tamiya Racer, that helped a lot. Now I clearly understand. Those Tamiya guys are really sneaky when it comes to stuff like that, you think they make many different cars and they are all the same! lol icon_smile_big.gif

And about the Porsches: That one isn't the same as I described, I ment this one:

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/car.asp?id=199

Assuming this one has got all of the options the PIAA one has, This looks even better. BUT BUT BUT: What I hear from tower hobbies is that the shipping costs are going to kill me anyway, about $40! (I think) icon_smile_shy.gif

Then it wasn't that silly after all offering €75 for it, whith is the same as $70. But the guy wanted €100 for it... icon_smile_sad.gif Still didn't got his reply on: 'it isn't worth that much'... well see....icon_smile.gif

THAT's the one. The 58193. I can get that for €100 but I think that is too much if a PIAA one goes for less. And PIAA ones are Ltd. Ed. as well, with many hop ups. What should I pay for a 58193id=blue>? I'm not really after one, but this one looked like a nice 'Sinterklaas' present. Maybe a Clod Is even better...we'll see. But Sinterklaas will be in 1½ month so I gotta hurry a bit. icon_smile_wink.gif

I got enough project cars for now, of which some have to go. Anyone interreseted in a Bear Hawk with a nice green-yellow color scheme? lol icon_smile_big.gif Also got a good Super Hornet. icon_smile.gif I want to get rid of these actually, but maybe one of them would be a nice runner... I dunno what to do, I'll go figure it out. (I can't sell anything... lol icon_smile_wink.gif )
