Was having a bit of a clear out / tidy up last night, and realised that I have a spare Lunchbox shell lying about. I was thinking what other chassis' out there are on a 1/12th scale, and as I fancy a non off-road chassis for my next project I thought I'd give the Mardave cars a look.

Is there anyone that's ever run or built one? If so what's the difference between Hot Road and Banger kits? They look amazingly simple and basic, which generally means they'll be reliable and a bit of a laugh.

Thoughts?

i think the banger kit is the one you want - the V12?

they do a "hot" V12 too, called a VRX

cheap too!

they are very simple kits, and they drive real nice

if you wanted to splash out though, your lunchy shell could sit on one of them new M06 pro's . . . . .

It was the cheapness that really attracted me to the Mardave if I'm honest. My family never have a clue what to get me for Christmas, and I never really have an idea what I want, so last year I suggested they just put in together whatever they wanted to spend, I'll pick a kit and make up any shortfall. Last year I got a Plasma Edge, and this year I was torn between an M-04 Beetle or Hornet. I do really fancy an on road car this time round, given the Mardaves cheapness and the fact it's a bit different I thought it'd be a good candidate.

I do fancy an M chassis car of some sort at some point though, so I'll definitely look into the M06; especially if there's a "Chassis only" edition.

I have a Mardave 1/12th Mini-Stock. Well two actually, one built and one as spares. Like you say, good cheap fun.

I used to race these back in the 80's, so bought the newer one a couple of years ago out of nostalgia really...

Hiya, the main difference between the cars is the Bangers use a mechanical resistor type speedo. Ive been selling building racing trashing these cars for years now, get involved, you wont regret it! I've raced just about every formula of model car there is and keep coming back to 1/12 oval

Heh.. thanks for that bugjammer. I've gotta be honest I've never really fancied club racing before, (I've always felt as soon as things are taken that sersiously, it takes all the fun of the hobby out .. at least for me) but I do know that my local club tends to cater for indoor carpet racers like the Mardaves, so it might be worth asking if they have a section for bangers. Watching a couple of vids on YT, it really does look like heaps of fun!

www.mardaveforums.com :D

quite cheap to start (unless you go brushless) but generally £240 will get you a kit, brushless setup, batteries and you can use existing radio and chargers.

all good fun, but dont paint your shell too fancy, they dont last too long :P

I race a V12 and it is really great car and at pocket money prices too. We race Hotrods (hatchbacks) on a carpet circuit (not oval). Talking of which I better run!

You won't regret it!

Best wishes
