I thought we had lots of snow in the beginning of this year already B) Anyway, nice to see the snow again - If we're getting a winter like the last one, I'll definetely have loads of fun with my modded TXT-1! :(

PS: It sounds like your WD is having a little trouble with the depth of the snow actually :o

Yes, I'm considering getting new tires for it. The rubber spikes are almost worn off, but I'm not sure how much a new set will help...

New video

The spikes won´t do much in the snow I think, unless it will have a (small) top layer has frozen to a hard surface. I noticed the spikes the most when I was driving on grass, as the spikes really grab onto/into it, shooting the front wheels up in the air even using just silver cans  Good memories of the third car I ever owned - I shouldn't have sold it...

Looking at the video, you're losing grip because the space between the paddles fills up with snow in seconds. It gives another viw on the spikes - maybe they won't gather snow like that. You could also try making some snow chains :) (If you think the snow lasts long enough).

The problem perhaps is that the tires fill up with snow so fast. Taking the car directly from the house to the garden, the tires are warm and will melt the first snow allowing it to fill and stick to the tires. I think I'll try leaving the car out some 20 minutes before driving to see what effect that has

Snowchains are not an option right now - perhaps in my next life....

Looks like a whole host of fun!

Sadly my only working car at the moment is my Lancia Delta DF-03ra and that doesn't have the ground clearance for snow.

My Monster Beetle snapped a shock mount out of the front left knuckle 3 days ago, and the same running session resulted in a cracked rear gearbox casing for my TXT-1. I'm currently awaiting a new gearbox casing and hoping that the snow doesn't melt here in Norfolk.

If you want grip in snow you actually want to keep snow within the tread blocks - the grip of snow on snow is the concept behind winter car tyres. You need a tyre with a lot closer tread pattern, something along the line of a dirt hawg tyre, which will trap snow more efficently within the tread. A nice soft compound that doesn't harden in the cold weather also helps !

Interesting, thanks. Has Tamiya come up with anything like this yet? I can't remember having seem it :(

OK, cooling the tires before running actually helped preventing them from packing with snow:

Thanks - actually they are snapshots from the video. See it here.

More fun in the snow:

But why is it that the front wheels seem to live their own lives independent of the suspension?

Nice video too. Looks like good fun!

I'm hoping for some snow this week so I can get some time off work to start my Bigwig rebuild.

My idea is about the tires appearing out front is the shell is not exactly made proportional to the chassis. I always think this of the type of chassis like you have. Also suspension lowers during use, so "spreads" out more.
