I remember trying to paint one as a kid and the paint just peeled off once dry. Just wondered if there was any way of getting the paint to stick to the plastic, as I just got another one and fancied a different colour.

Cheers

This isn't a big problem.

All you do is a light sand to give the paint a key (help it adhere) and then be sure to use paint suitable for either LEXAN, or flexible rubber spoilers as used on full sized cars ( I am pretty sure Halfords carry this product!)

good luck !

The HB booklet says you can't paint it - but we don't care... icon_smile_wink.gif

Personally, I think blue is a nice color, but that's my problem... icon_smile_tongue.gif After a bit of polishing with car-polish it didn't look much better, though it helped a bit. If I can get my hands on a good decal sheet I think about repainting it, but I don't think it will make much sense for me. The rear 'luxaflex' windscreen on mine was painted with lexan paint, and it doesn't really hold on as well. I think I can easily peel it of, but I'm not going to try icon_smile_wink.gif Maybe after more drying, I saw a flakew coming of a few days later, so maybe I was unpaintient trying whether it has stuck. icon_smile_dead.gif

Here are some other HB / SR questions, I thought i might want to post them here:

icon_smile_question.gif Did the HB / SR came with the black bumper as well as the grey one? I saw a HB with a black bumper a long while ago on Ebay. Wondered if it's origional. I want to glue my crappy old bumper (hopeless...icon_smile_dead.gif) and then spray it black. I have a sneaking suspicion it was a black one, but the rough edges (almost EVERY EDGE imagianable...) were gray, as the 'gray' bumper. (I think the grey bumper looks more like brown than gray... Don't they call it kaki or something?)

icon_smile_question.gif I was totally happy when I found the buthered Sand Rover in a big big deal of 8 or more cars. I had the 540 motor mount on it, it looked pretty good, only the rest was just so damaged it's useless, exept for the rear axle and arms. Anyway, me taking of the motor mount, want to screw it on my HB chassis, and guess what? I'm missing one hole in the chassis! AAAAAAAH! Still useless! Does ANYONE of you know HOW this is possible? icon_smile_blackeye.gif

My uncle says I have to stop acting like a pathetic fool and drill another hole in it. noooooo!id=size1> But I just can't let that happen. You guys would probably want to kill for that... icon_smile_wink.gif Is this one of those jokes from Tamiya or what? The Sand Rover chassis also says 'RC 1/10 HOLIDAY BUGGY', so I assumed they were the same. You might think: "Why doesn't he use the SR as well?" Well, this is completely ruined: The front where the body attached: broken. The front suspension mounts: broken... and so on. Those weird fools drill new holes in it all over the place (in the bumper as well! icon_smile_dissapprove.gif) The only thing I can save is the body, I'm going to fill the holes (yes, they drilled holes it the body too) and repaint it. Still need new decals and bodymounts to fit it on... icon_smile.gif

Help me out on this one, PLEASE! Im getting desperate here! Stop me before I drill! icon_smile_shock.gif

HB/SR were produced after the first Racing Buggy series with the black bumpers, think all had the grey one, which isn't khaki. Only a prototype had a black rear roll/bad/body mount: http://www.vintagetamiyarc.com/interesting/HB_proto.JPG

If the rough edges were gray, don't thin kthat was a black one too...

Chassis are the same, just check the SR manual how/where to mount it, it is on the other side of the gearbox and you use one axle/gear less and I think one gear turned around?

No no, My HB chassis is missing one hole! Really! icon_smile_shock.gif I'll ask my bro to take a pic of it. I found it very weird too. I have the SR manual, so I know how to do it. I swear you it's missing! I really find it strange, I just couldn't believe it now I finally found that mount for it....icon_smile_dissapprove.gificon_smile_sad.gif D*mned Tamiya is playing a trick on me...I knew it! lol icon_smile_tongue.gif

BUT: Blondiniboy has a 380 motor mount, on the way to my place. (Still didn't recieve it though.... icon_smile_shock.gif ) THNX Martin! icon_smile_big.gif Real cool thing of you. icon_smile_cool.gif

icon_smile_question.gif Now the next question for the microwave or the washing machine icon_smile_tongue.gif: What 380 motor do I use for it? The same as on my Renault Mk.22 F-2? I have some of them and I wonder which one to use. icon_smile.gif

You have to throw away one gear (B) and then use the A and C gear only, the A gear goes in place of the B, and the motor get possitioned more to the front, still driving the A gear. (you can look this up yourself too, on you know where...) icon_smile_wink.gif I know they are the same, both my HB as SR chassis say the same (RC 1/10 HOLIDAY BUGGY).

I hope you can help me out with this... icon_smile.gif

I promise the mount is on its way!!! My SR has a 380 mount on it, it uses three nylon gears and the mount sits towards the back with the motor mounted directly above the two locating pins moulded on the chassis.

Its impossible to fit the 540 mount wrong because the shaft for the spur gear runs through it, is yours a proper SR HB 540 mount? With the 540 mount installed you use only two nylon gears and it sits on the same side as the 380 mount (presumably with the motor turning in the opposite direction?)

Hope this helps.

Getting the hang of it now!!!

quote:Martin is right, checked also my SR, you can check also the online manual.
id=quote>id=quote>

Yes, he is right. But I am sure it is a proper mount, it looks exactly the same as in the manual and there is that hole in it for the shaft. It certainly looks factory made as well, not like my 'fake' motor mounts. The point is the CHASSIS is missing one hole, and the other (broken) chassis HAS this hole. This can't be (home) drilled because there is a little bit of the 'X' missing. Very hard to explain without a picture and I think you don't know what I'm talking about without one... icon_smile_wink.gif. Very strange as well. I didn't check the online manual, I have the origional (SR) manual myself. icon_smile_wink.gif Again, both chassis' say the same. I think I have spotted something very special here... icon_smile_shock.gif New content for our sites, guys!!! (but on mine first icon_smile_evil.gif lol)

quote:Or better could you post some pics of your chassis(...)
id=quote>id=quote>

Yes, I will. I really want to show you this since it's so strange. But my bro is a but lazy and it takes a lot of time before I can make him getting me a picture. icon_smile_dead.gif I'm really trying hard to get it today, but my bro won't be at home for long today (LAN party and stuff) I'll, try to make pics of the 380 motors as well, you might win the microwave with the next "icon_smile_question.gif". lol

quote:(...)made me very curious...
id=quote>id=quote>

Well, it made me nuts... icon_smile_wink.gif

Finally having the part I'm looking for for a long while and then THIS... icon_smile_sad.gificon_smile_dissapprove.gif

Oh, Martin, I'm going back to the front door now, I don't want the mount to fall to hard on the floor so I'll try to catch it... icon_smile_tongue.gif Maybe a pillow will do icon_smile_clown.gif I'll believe you you've posted it, I think you are a honest guy. icon_smile.gif

Your right you know, if its not got the hole in the machined part of the X then there is definately something amiss with your chassis. Very strange.

He's right i think Tamiya droped a boo boo, on the Hol Bug chasiss looking from the rear there is a mount hole that cuts out the bottom left of the casting mark (the X)and there should be another about 40mm lower down ana slightly to the left.

Look underneath where the hole should be and see if there is a reces for it, It could be that the mouldng is correct but Tamiya forgot to drill it.

P.s Is it just me that seems to pick up hol buggy chassis that are allways knackered

Posted

No, that's not it, Soniq. I'm going to get my pics soon (but it's taking too long... icon_smile_sad.gif ) I also noticed the front suspension mounts are slightly different as well. I got the motor mount for the 380 motor (THNX to Blondiniboy). Thins one does fit on chassis, now I just need the brass tube for the pinion (cellotape works as well! icon_smile_clown.gif ) , and the 2.6 mm screws for it. I'll go look these up soon to get my HB more complete. For now we gotta wait for the pics. icon_smile_wink.gif

YES YES YES !!! rearSR.JPG

Above: This is what it supposed to look like.

rearHB.JPG

And this is what mine looks like. The hole near the 380 motor mount is not origional. Look at the upper left 'X' in both pictures and you know what I mean by: "It's missing one hole!" frontHB.JPG

This doesn't look so strange to me... frontSR.JPG

Until I found out that the front spring mounts (near the siver colored nut) are supposed to be slightly different. This is not clearly visible because of the awfull 'modification'. bumperup.JPG

bumperdown.JPG

Tell me, is there ANY hope in trying to restore this? I am willing to put a lot of tmie in it since it's the only one I got... icon_smile.gif About the color: I think it was a grey one, then totally sprayed silver, and later the plastic ends where dipped in black paint. As the prototype has a grey bumper as well, I think the HB only came with the grey bumper and NOT with the black item (like the early SS and RR). Maybe I'll spray it black to make my HB look a proto-proto-type. icon_smile_clown.gif LOL icon_smile_big.gif

Thanx for your help, don't forget to send me a good pic of the two 'area's' of the HB / SR (front spring mount, rear gear case), as these are really usefull to me. I hope this will make good content for my site, if you ask me nicely I might let you use it as well... icon_smile_wink.gif LOL

Yeah, I think that hole is the same one (though it isn't there...confusing...) icon_smile_shock.gif

Or should I say: your chassis looks the same. icon_smile_wink.gif

Make a pic of your front spring mount to make sure they are the same as mine... icon_smile.gif I think I am not the only one... icon_smile_wink.gif

My HB chassis will not take the 540 mount either. Its the same as yours, there is no hole, and no cut out int he 'X'.

I guess they changed the mould when they made the Sand Rover, so it's probably only the early HB's that are like this.

The front spring mounts are like the ones in the first picture. What happened to the chassis in the second picure? It looks like the suspension has been locked solid?

Mine had a busted front bumper too. Unfortunately, I only have the bottom half, or I would try and patch it up. I wouldn't say your bumper is beyond repair, but it's going to be hard to make it strong enough to use on a runner.

id=quote>id=quote>

Yes, that's the same! the area you place a lock nut on. icon_smile.gif

As said, my chassis is completely screwed up...anti roll mod...(no suspension) icon_smile_dead.gif

The bumper wont be used on a runner, I'm going to use it on the HB. I'll run the buthered SR maybe, but not the HB. icon_smile.gif
