I'll stick with my new built original Celica that I paid £50 for thanks ;)

On a serious note though, I think the perfect way to re-re this model would be in 1/10 on the XV-01 chassis with a limited edition motor. Just my personal opinion of course. Hmm, that gives me an idea....

Smug  ;)

Yeah just a little  The guy who sold it me only wanted £30 originally but I talked him up to £50 to try and ease my conscience a bit!

I remember when I bought a 959 as part of a job-lot of rc stuff for about £60, sometimes it pays to trawl through the listings at 3am

100% agree. I would be all over that like a fat kid on a cupcake.

Blasphemy! Lol, should this be re-re'd, it needs to stay as true to the original as possible with a few strength tweaks for brushless power and LiPo battery fitment. If you want larger, get the Carisma 959.

Glad you're here Noel, can you remind me what that website was that does the 'proper' white 5 spoke wheels please?

Hi Steve... still lurking! Got into planes though so my Tamiya funds are being diverted at the moment. A 959 on an XV01 would change that pronto.

Here is the website... http://www.rcrallyraiders.com/

They are really good but be prepared for some serious sanding to smooth them out. In fact I did mean to contact Toykid. Looking at the work he has done on the custom FAV / Wild One cages, he seems to have mastered the art of 3d printing with a smooth finish.

Frankly I would take either a 1/12 on a custom chassis (with much stronger arms) or a 1/10.

Yeah see if it was a proper 1/12 re-release on the original chassis, I would be very tempted to get it simply because it's an interesting chassis. If they released it in 1/10 on a modern chassis, I'd probably give it a miss.

Thread revival.....

However this is the kit I'd like to as a Re-release and hoping 2018 will be the year for it. Original 1/12th though. Not as an XV-01, as that wouldn't be a re-re would it.

Didn't the Celica GrB have a centre diff, the addition of that would be a good upgrade.

I'm convinced Tamiya is listening since the TA02-S Lancia 037   after I said like 5 times that I'm re-purposing my TA02SW re-re chassis as a 037.  Maybe they'll take the hint and start building M06 911s too!!!

Tamiya... one more word about the M06: DeLorean.  Make it happen.

And why no front-motor rear-wheel-drive M-chassis?  That would be $$$$$

Here’s a photo I shot in 1987 in front of O’Neils surf shop at Santa Cruz, CA harbor. Tamiya should re-release the 1/12 Porsche 959 scale kit exactly as originally produced — the kit is awesome.

Note on the photo: I made some proper lexan painted rim covers back in 1987 on this shoot — driving AND snapping the photo on my belly in the sand was a handful !

@WillyChang yes, my thoughts exactly on releasing the original body on an easy to assemble chassis, MF-01X. Perfect wheelbase, rear engine layout, AWD, this would also sell very well as a normal kit.

Cheers, Thompson

This thread was started in 2010. The most requested re-re on this site is the 959. Do you really think Tamiya pays much attention to this site?

StudioRS, do you live in SC? Shodog has pics of his rough rider on that same beach, just more recent ;)

@Biz73 keeping my fingers crossed Tamiya (or Tamiya USA) reads it and communicates up the chain.

No, I grew up In Saratoga, CA in the mountains, but spent loads of time on that beach sailing Nacra 5.2 cats!

Also,, when we started Innovations Racing Center in downtown San Jose, around the same time, Joel Johnson helped us out — he gave my 959 a proper thrashing and throughly approved.

I’ll have to check out Shodog’s photos.

I don't know how much pull TamiyaUSA has considering they can't even get stock photos of half their items. We'll see. Kumamon version? ;)

Saratoga mountains are nice. We camped there once. They had removed the raccoons from the area, so the skunks moved in. It was sketchy going to the bathroom at night. Haha.

Skunked! Lol...too funny.

I think rather than voicing our opinion on this forum (that we don't really know if Tamiya reads or not), we should submit a formal written letter with as many signatures (or collect the forum interest) and have Chris (Tamiya Club) submit this as a letter mailed directly to Tamiya Japan. This one model is the most requested for a re-re of all. That would get their respect and attention. Sounds old school, but could prove to be effective. The other option would be to formally submit a request on behalf of all interested Tamiya Club members through their official email and social channels.

Tamiya, please put back into production the 1986 Porsche 959 kit Nr.58059.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Cheers, Thompson

ps... until this becomes a reality, I'll leave you with some Tuesday entertainment!

I wasn't trying to get down on Tamiya, just making a couple observations. I hope they come out with a 959 re-re for all of you guys to enjoy, although it may crash this site when everyone comes on to rejoice! ;)

Nice to see this thread resurected!

Still the coolest Tamiya ever IMHO. Just look at my avatar!

Everything about it from prototype to chassis to Technigold to body was perfect.

I had the pleasure of buying one NIB back in 2005, building it and running it with working lights on a perfect beach. Still brings a smile to my face thinking about it now.

A full re-re would be special. A MF01 re-hash would also open my wallet!
