Just been out for a blast in the snow - more help required though I think

I'm not sure I'm getting full power as when I go for full throttle on the transmitter the car cuts out - forward and reverse.

I think it needs setting up - does anyone know where I can find a pdf of the DF02 set up instructions as the car came with nothing!

cheers guys again

If you can't get the build manual from the main site here, then try tamiyausa or tamiya101.

Dirt thrasher is the same chassis, don't expect much in the way of set-up detail though.

What battery, esc and motor are you running?

I think we established you've got a Tamiya TEU101BK ESC earlier ...

so:

Set throttle trim to centre position on the transmitter & turn on

either chock the car up on a box so the driven wheels are free to spin up, or disconnect one or both leads to the motor - then turn the car on ...

push setup button on the ESC with some sort of pokey thing - hold for at least half a second ...

hit full forward throttle on the TX and hold it there, then press ESC setup button again, then release throttle ....

hit full reverse and hold it there, then press ESC setup button again, then release throttle ....

If you still get the stalling then it's some sort of power issue, such as:

Motor gearing wrong (pinion has too many teeth)

Battery not fully charged (or just rubbish)

Drag from running surface (sticky mud, wrong sort of snow?)

Motor is too much for the speed control (less than 23 turns), or is just clapped out

Drag in the gearbox (too much/too thick grease, seized bearings, bent driveshaft)

Sounds like your battery is either not fully charged or toast as Johny Retro suggested. The ESC will "cut-out" if the current draw exceeds what is available in the battery. It looks like the car is lurching forward and then cuts out.. If you give it half throttle and it goes okay but cuts out when you apply full throttle, this may be what is happening.

Think its the battery - presumably if it hasnt been used for a long time these can deteriorate. I'm ordering some big amp ones and will see what that does

Great forum - great knowledge

Ive bought my two boys two sandvipers for Christmas - so will no doubt be back on the forum on boxing day with questions!!

Is the battery charger working properly and actually charging the pack? Is it a timed charger or delta peak? Timed chargers should be avoided as they rarely charge the pack correctly.

New high capacity Ni-MH battery packs will need a suitable delta peak Ni-MH charger. You can't charge Ni-MH batteries with a Ni-Cd charger. It will damage the Ni-MH cells.
