New Sand Scorcher - I just got one!!

Started off as a normal day, minding my own business when all of a sudden the phone rings and its some guy responding to a local advert i placed ages ago. Turns out he has a sand scorcher and was wondering if I would be interested.

An hour later I'm at his house and he is showing me his Sand scorcher which he bought new in 1981 and 'never got around to finishing'

Bad Points:

No box, no vw badge and one handle is split in two.Manual is a bit 'wavy' (possible got damp and dried out?)

Good points:

The rest is all there and all new, never been run. Still needs finishing off and the main bit of the body needs stripping (he tried painting it but got bored) all the body bits still haven't been stuck on.

Indicators, lenses, wipers, exhaust (still on tree) Full set of decals (sods law after I just produced the repros - but it did make me realise how good the repros are) Driver still on the tree. All the rubber bits are still in thier bags. All radio gear. Basically every bit is new and unused (a bit dusty at worse)

Best point:

Got the lot for £45.00. Pictures later.

Congrats m8, with the trouble you are going through for Tamiya (club, decals) you definetelly deserved it!

Even on eBay there are still bargains out there, received today my $48 mispelled Frog(body painted from outside, but mint chassis and Magnum RC!).

I got back into old Tamiya RC cars three weeks ago - since then I've gotten two Sand Scorchers in very good condition, running great and pretty much complete. I paid $70 for the first one and $80 for the other one.

I've two more on hand, just waiting for the sellers to get back to me! I've found all of them after placing an ad in a local paper. So like Chris says, I think there is a lot of old SS out there waiting to be found - you just got to be creativ hunting them down!

sjoerd who appointed you Tamiya club cop? Eventhough this is an old topic, Simesays still had relevant information in response to the topic. Maybe I'm just cranky today but the whole reason we have a disscusion board is to discuss things. Old topics or new topics, it's still vintage R/C.
