i bought a wild willy 1 the other day, its totaly complete - not a SINGLE thing is missing and it was in excellent condition, but i totaly stripped it anyway before i attempted to run it just to make sure it was built properly and nothing was bodged up,and yeh, it was fine.

when i came to putting it back together i noticed something odd (unfortunately i,d slept inbetween the time it took me too strip it/clean it and rebuild it, and so forgotten how it went back together),luckily it came with the original instruction manual - i found that while building up the servo saver it didnt fit together as per instructions and it didnt look the same as the adjoining photo. in the instructions they show the servo saver shaft bush fitting into the chassis and part G4 fitting flush upto the front bulkhead - as per photo - but my bush wouldnt fit into the chassis because the hole was too small. according to the original marks it was put together with this bush fitting upto the bulkhead and forcing the steering arms to work at odd angles.

in the end after ages trying different ideas to confirm this "fault", i drilled out the hole in the chassis to the correct size of the bush (a nice tight fit), and built it up again and this time it looked exactly like the photo, with the steering arms running at more sensible angles.

has anyone else noticed this?.

i havent noticed any other problems yet..........

cheers.

Hi Jezza

Bit confusing as part G4 is actually one side of the gearbox?

Atleast you sorted your problems, what's it go like then?

Cheers

Wierd, shouldn't be. WW never needed any cutting to fit; steering saver goes together quite easily although it is a bit fiddly. Yes it pushes against the tub front bulkhead, but its still none worse for that.

You might have to send us a pix...!

the "willy" is now totaly re-built/greased/painted and running....well,sort of...

i finished it last week, but its been raining here non stop up until yesterday,so after coming home from work yesterday (saturday) i decided to have a go on it. i fast charged the battery and checked it all work and the took it outside into the sunshine. i,ve never driven anything like this before so i was a little bit suprised. i cracked open the throttle and it pulled a honking great wheelie then shot off across the patio at a very rapid pace - completely out of control and crashed into the house....with a loud crack....as i walked over to it i could see the one front wheel was at a funny angle, so i tried to kid myself that it was ok and it was probably just the servo saver working...oh,no.. when i picked it up the wheel dropped down and i could see the left hand side suspension arm was broken!!!!!!.

heart broken, i went into town and got very, very drunk last night.

if i could work out how to post a picture here i would, but i cant seem to work out how to do it. any sugestions?.

i,ve solved the problem with the broken suspension arm - lucky for me blazer frazer has new and used ones in his stock, so theres a cheque heading his way in the post, perhaps there is a god after all!, a million thank you,s frazer. maybe my next go will last longer than 60 seconds!. the other problem i had with the chassis was, i had to make my own cut-outs for the wiring to pass through so it didnt get trapped by the chassis lid. a problem the prevous owner had because some of the wiring was in quite poor condition, in the instructions these cut-outs are shown moulded in already,it was no big deal, but its not like tamiya to miss out details like that. never found any other problems though.

oh well, best look at the map to find out where this meet day is then.

have fun.

Are there 2 holes in the lid to let the wires out?

If so this might be the "first" version Willy.

funny you should mention the holes, yeh, theres 2 side by side on the lid of the chassis box - by the switch in a oval cut-out, next to that is a single large hole, and on the other side of the switch is a single small one also in a cut-out. never thought to try and run the wires through there!,doh!.

ah well, live and learn eh!.[:)]

Ya, that's the "early" one!! [:)]

Got me all confused too when I found one supplied on a Wheeler. The motor and battery wires are meant to go thru the lid instead of the slots on the side. Early lid also doesn't have any hole to screw Wheeler's driver to - so *that* was the real confusing bit. [B)]

i,m glad i never ran the wires through the original moulded holes because i reckon that looks a bit untidy. i prefer the slots myself.

glad we got that sorted thought[;)]
