not sure if the original can, but ive seen the re-re fitted out with df03 wheels and tyres, on standard hex's, so im guessing most 4wd wheels and tyres will work.

I'm getting the re-re car.

Those are just DF-03 / Dark Impact wheels. All you need is 12MM Hex Adapters and the wheels and tires. I bought both for my Hotshot from RCMart. You can get the 12MM hex adapaters anywhere, here is what I ordered for mine including tires:

1 Tamiya (#0440209) Front Wheel For Dark Impact (DF03) USD$5.90

1 Tamiya (#0440210) Rear Wheel For Dark Impact (DF03) USD$5.90

1 Tamiya (#53878) High Density Spike Tire C Tires (1 Pair) USD$13.50

1 Tamiya (#53879) High Density Spike Tire C Tires (1 Pair) USD$13.90

The tires I would not recommend if you plan to run them on pavement.. They will be wore out by the end of the day, you would be much better with a ProLine Dirt Hawg for the same wheels.

Here is a pic of mine with the wheels in black:

Thanks a lot for suggesting rc mart. It disappointed me to find out tower hobbies doesn't carry the hotshot bearings or the wheels I want.

The wheels you're running are identical as you say, but I'm going with the white and red theme of the hotshot. They have all the parts I need so far, and I also ordered the cheaper "K" series tires. I hope there isn't much difference?

K series are the hard compound, C series are the soft. there is quite a difference in compound, that said I have run K series dual blocks, front and rear on my TRF201 on on a dirt and astro race track, and they hooked up pretty well. Not as nice as green compound JConcepts tyres, but still fine for general driving.

Good info there.

Ok going off topic again, the ball bearings. RC mart has a kit of Yeah Racing ball bearings. One kit is rubber sealed w/blue in color and the other is the traditional metal shielded pieces. Are there any major differences?

personally, i would go for the metal shield bearings. i recently bought some plastic shield bearings for my madcap (not 3 racing, some other brand) however the tolerance between the inner race projection to the plastic sheild face of the bearing, was not as good as with a metal shield bearing. bottom line, when installed in wheels, they had a slight tendency to bind up once the wheel nuts were screwed on hard, which the metals did not.

from now on i'm going to buy metal shield bearings...

The wheels and tyres that goes with the LRP Blast S10 buggy are great value for money i think. The rims are far nicer than those of the Dark Impact (IMO), and the tyres are LRP Vtec-ones, which have pretty good grip, and seem to wear at a decent rate. Also, they are available as spares, pre-glued. :)

There are also some cheaper alternatives available from 3racing, finished wheels and tyres in a box that is, but in my opinion, the compound in the tyres is way too hard, and they don´t have very good traction. :( Actually, i think the compound is harder than the Hotshot kit tyres, where the ones from LRP are nice and soft. :)

Cheers..

merckx- Thanks for the advice. Metal bearings it is!

Gozone-The wheels on the LRP Blast S10 buggy are nice, but I feel that with the hotshot's simple, blocky design the wheels I elected may suit it better.

I run these wheels on my re-release Hotshot and the only thing needed is some hex adaptors.

The parts that I am using are:

OP-569 (53569) Clamp Type Aluminum Wheel Hub (6mm Thick)

OP-788 (53878) High Density Spike Tires C (4WD/Front, 62/25)

OP-789 (53789) High Density Spike Tires C (Rear, 62/35)

OP-880 (53880) Large Dish Wheels (4WD/Front, 62/25)

OP-881 (53881) Large Dish Wheels (Rear, 62/35)

This is the same wheels as on the Keen Hawk but with the softer tyre option. These tyres have been discontinued by Tamiya and replaced by:OP-1187 (54187) RC Dual Block Tires C - 4WD/Front, 62/25 and OP-1188 (54188) RC Dual Block Tires C - Rear, 62/35.

Any modern 2.2 inch 4wd tyres will fit on these rims as well.

Sorry for the nub question here but what does this part do and is it needed in order to run these wheels properly on my re release hotshot?

this picture should help explain:

http://hobbytech.co.za/catalog/images/tam53569.jpg

they clamp to the wheel axle pins, they then provide the "hex" for which the wheel mounts. the inside face of the new wheel has a matching hex shaped recess. its a great system for mounting wheels securely.

Sorry my explanation was a little poor, they are the wheel hex and key into the back of the wheel. merckx's picture shows what you get in the parts bag. They replace the triangular plastic piece used with the original wheels and tyres on the Hotshot.

I got ya. I figured it was that but wasn't sure. Now in order for me to run the aftermarket wheels all I need is some 12mm hex adaptors. Should I be able to get these anywhere?

Yeh some 12mm adaptors are all you need.

They don't have to be the clamp type or even aluminium, you could use plastic ones that come in other kits. There are many different after market manufactures that also make them.

HI,

Looking at putting some Tamiya 53880 & 53881 on the Hotshot see below links

https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/radio-control-parts-70/r-c-wheels(spare-hop-up)-71300/rc-off-road-lg-dia-wheels-53880

https://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=53881

Do I need a hex adapter to fit these rims,if so, any ideas which one, 12mm or 6mm?

And some tires to fit the above, good for bitumen/concrete,that dont wear too fast.

All the Best

MMM

Yes those are known as DF03 Wheels, yes they are hex.

yes std hex is 12mm across the flats

If you look deep enough, 12mm clamp hexes also come in different thicknesses eg 4mm, 5mm, 6mm etc these will adjust the width of car
