Hey all, im starting a restoration on my frog and im wondering when you are faced with parts that are rusted or lost their colour, would you repaint the parts?

I would use wet and dry sand paper to sand the rust of metal parts, I'm assuming you're talking about the aluminium brackets and such. With re-re parts a plenty you could pick up the chassis parts fairly cheaply so wouldn't bother repainting plastic especially if you are considering running it. People paint plastic generally if they are doing a custom build and want to color code the chassis to match other features etc.

Good luck with your resto!

Replacement plastic parts are pretty cheap, although if you go mad it can soon add up !. Light scuffing to plastic suspension arms can be improved with various grades of wet n dry sandpaper to an acceptable standard as a good runner - if you want a mint shelf queen then you are probably going to have to buy new. Dogbones and drive/gearbox joints can be cleaned up, again with wet n dry, and repainted in silver/aluminium/matt aluminium if needbe. Most other metal parts like ball connectors etc can be improved with metal polish or wet n dry.

Alloy parts are more awkward, a lot of chemical cleaners will stain or tarnish tem, so you either need to repaint in a suitable aluminium/silver colour or try to clean them up with car polish.

www.tamiyaparts.co.uk allow you to just enter the part number you are looking for (right hand side of page), which is far better than the numerical list that is on www.fusionhobbies.com

You should be able to get a parts list from the main tamiyaclub page ('reference' top of page tab, then models) - if not then go to tamiyausa.com and click on RC Models tab, and use the part finder option at the bottom of that dropdown - you can then search for manuals, exploded views or parts lists by model number.

Original Frog was model #, 58041, re-release is 58354. There was a TamTechGear one too, 56701 - might be others, i'm not a frog expert (nor toads)
