Does anyone make an aftermarket exhaust for the SS? I know its a long shot so I thought that I would ask. I am contemplating making some from brass tubing. I would just need some dimensions. Does anyone know what the dimensions for these things would be?

I am afraid that NIB exhausts would be prohibitivly expensive.

Just thought that I would ask.

I've been trying for a few weeks now on making a copy of my SS exhaust using car brake pipe, but it kinks when bent to tightly, haven't given up yet though, I'm convinced i can make one!!!

Interesting idea, Jim - was thinking how to get mandrels of that size too. Pipecleaners are too soft.

I take it you guys are trying to remake the lower part of the exhaust, the maze bit. Anyone had a go at the trumpet upper part?

Posted

Actually, why are you guys using *pipe*? Doesn't K&N have solid brass or aluminium sticks on the hobby shop rack? Weight wouldn't be too much of a drama here.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. I would have to bend the pipe with a propane torch and then sodder(sp). If I just had the dimensions in which to work off. Anyone have these or maybe a few snapshots the real McCoy?

I recently got myself a complete unpainted exhaust in a scorcher kit i bought. I could post a picture ofboth parts if you want in my showroom. Its a shame that i finished college recently in the machine shop as i did a lathe and milling machine course. I could have made lots of exhaust tips as they would have been easy to do, what a shame i didn't have an interest in these cars then. Has anybody got a lathe they can make a couple on?

I am half tempted to sell my unpainted unglued exhaust to give me funds for another car but if i do then i will probably kick myself in a couple of months when i really want it. They are so rare that i would probably never get another one with all the parts. Oh the challenges of life icon_smile_wink.gif

I think heat is the only way that i have ever found to work to bend metal. It does mean it needs cleaning afterwards though.

Why dont you try your platic part making kit? Or is an exhaust too complicated for that...icon_smile_sad.gif Maybe you can make it in several pieces... icon_smile_wink.gif

Well you can take the exhaust apart into 3 main pieces (tip and two bottom pieces) Must be worth a try. A trip to halfords may be called for.

i made a exhaust while i 'was at college'(in other words, i was taking advantage of the facilities while they still thought i studied there! theyve found out now).

i used 5mm steel bar, bent it to shape, then turned a 'header' on the lathe, welded it all together to make a stinger exhaust.

drilled into the exhaust to make it more realistic.

those of you going to clumber park will see it in the flesh.

i loved the way my slammed scorcher looked.......

The part making kit is ok for small flat plastic bits, the exhaust is to complex to mould, could be done in several peices i suppose but would probably look a pig.

Think I'll try the auto pipe bender, not sure if it will bend the pipe through over 180 degrees tight enough though.

Check your local arts-n-craft shops, fellas. Last time I browsed in 1 they had a mini pipe-bending kit, I think that had formers of about 1cm diameter... but its pretty light duty stuff though.

Sorry Guys, I was presently mooving and struggling to cast the pending wish list of a few members of the club...

As far as this pipe is concerned I still have half of it and Markus V. kindly sent me the remaining part together with the door handles. Package seems to have been lost...

Maybe for christmas then ...

good new is you want realistic metal exhausts.......im currently getting some done and a set or 2 will be ready for tamiyaclub.

will be polished stainless steel, with steel 'pipes'.

although i might go for all steel if its easier to build them up.

they will have to be painted tho, or polished and dried after every wet weather session.

price shouldnt be too much, just a bit more than build costs.

they are the 'dual cannon' style, one silencer each side of the rear cage.

working on a way to mount them at the moment.

like i say, a set will be on show on one of my scorchers at tamiyaclub meeting this weekend.

Two or three months ago, a sand scorcher was sent on ebay, and the seller was talking about a resin copy of complete exhaust. I sent him a mail though ebay but never receipt answer. He was selling a rough rider to, with homemade roof, another new unmount roof, and i m not sure but i remember williams FW07 stickers on the rough rider.

I think he was from Finland or Norway or....

Does anyone remember the auction?

Is "Santa Claus" a tamiyaclub member?[:)]

With an original unmount one I think i would be able to make a mold and make resin copies, but, big problem I haven t got anyone.....

A friendly owner want to try? no problem for shipping costs, exhaust return (by DHL) and no problem making mold, I m talking about silicon.

well, heres a pic of what they will look like.

these in the pic are real, the ones im selling are exactly trhe same, only theres a chance the pipes will be painted in aluminium paint.

i'll work out a price for the tamiyaclub meeting.

theres might be a set or 2 for sale there, cos ive just got them back from the place that is making them.

Hi Theo.

I m not familiarized with name of each member, can it be possible to tell me what nick he is using in Tamiyaclub? or is email?

Volksrod68, your metal exhaust is terrific looking for any vw powered RC car.

the last one you want to make would be perfect for sand rover to. Interested for one of those. I will only need to find a sand rover later. [:D]

Thanks.

Emmanuel
