Alright, I just got my new Mazda 787b body off ebay, except I want to paint it and put it on display. The problem is that I do not have any sort of airbrush to paint with. Also, this old body does not come with the Tamiya masking on the body. I was curious if anyone had any advice on what options I might have. Does anyone know of people who will paint bodies for a fee??? I don't feel like buying an airbrush, and I don't want to ruin this body.

I'm told the orange and green can be done from Tamiya's own PS paintcans. If painting orange first, back it with white before putting green over it.

Masking would be your only nightmare, good luck. icon_smile.gif

Haven't done 787 myself, but was advised its "easier" to mask for paint the orange bits first.

However... the orange is pretty transparent; if you paint green directly on top it'll muddy the orange and result in a wierd (unique?)teal/brown/khaki shade.

Solution is to seal the orange with a layer of white; after white it doesn't matter to the orange what else goes on.

Start with the darkest color always, and in this case it's black, then move onto the green color, then do the orange and after that paint the whole body silver.....

It's a badword of a job masking all, but well worth the effort!!! [8D]

I have just finished mine and i love it to bits already, even before the decals is applied.....

Oooh... *ancient* thread revived! [^]

Bright colours like orange and green should be backed by White,

which makes the colours stand out brighter.

Backing with silver gives it a duller 'oil-stained' look...

which might suit a car that's just won the 24 hrs. [;)]

I usally back with silver or white, but i found out that silver covers better with less paint.... (Important.... Weight you see, lol)

Other than that, I will buy Tamiya's air brush system and try that out, some of the Fascolor is really sweet!

Perhaps... but Tamiya's PS12 Silver unfortunately WEIGHS more

than the solid non-metallic colours too.... [:P]

A 'shelf' shell in metallic backed with silver can lard out

to about 50-60g (in paint alone) easy... vs 20g on a 'race'

shell with the judicial paint.

This kit was re-released a few years ago and came with a factory finished body.

I chickened out on the masking / painting for this one, sold my original body and bought a factory finished version from one of the ebay sellers in Japan.
