Hey!

Has anybody already tried to open this original battery/accu which was desgined espescially for the Hilux Blazer? I have now two used ones and i think it is (perhaps?) a good idea to open then, put new accus inside and then i will habe a original equipment with some extra power!

Unfortunally, there is no screw and i can't see, where the two halfes are connected (pehaps clipped) togehter.......

No way, these batteries are hermetically sealed like the 6V stick packs (and the 'hump' pack as well I think) I don't think you'll get a good result from breaking them open... [:(]

I have got broken 6V plastic parts, maybe I can fit modern cells in it. But if it's intact I would disrecommend wrecking it up [:)]

The big packs are like Tamiya's humppacks, they're ultrasonically welded together - so its impossible to open without damage. The only way is to cut it open around the middle line.

Once its open, you'll notice that there are 5 cells inside (with ROOM for a 6TH!!). They are standard D-size nicads; the cheapest ones these days are all easily 3300-4500mAh, or NiMH of 9000-10000mAh.

Ultrasonic welding? How does that work? I only know ultrasonic weld inspection and inductive welding which wouldn't work on plastic though...

Hi TamiyaNewbie, [:D]

I made it in Dreamweaver 4. [:)] It's a fancy program with loads o' features, but you have to know how to handle it because it's pretty difficult. A bit of HTML knowledge always comes in handy as well. [8D] If you liked it you can post your comments in my guestbook if you want.

How does ultrasonic welding work? I suppose it's welding to parts together with very high frequency sounds. But that's my interpretation of the words... [;)] Can't image how it exactly goes though, never heard of it before. [:)]

Maybe you can make your own battery cover-halfs? If your origional ones are still working then you should use them as they are. I think I've seen a topic about 'opening up old batteries' before. It isn't a bad thought, it's just impossble. [:P] (read: without ruining it [:D])

I think the are heat attached, like the hump pack, so only cutting them open would work. First time I hear ultrasonic welding, but maybe Willy knows more, except if he means high magnetic frequency (inductive) welding, which obviously works only with metals...
