Hi all, happy new year!

Anyone investigated the tyres on these models? i have an oil damped pumpkin and wondered if sealing the holes on the front rims would help stiffen the front tyre and aid steering ability.

What about the rears? Has anyone tried sealing the rears to see if tyre grip is improved or made worse?

Grip is phenomenally worse. Even tried foam inserts from an old set of Proline monster truck tires and immediately regretted it. These tires are meant to be big and squishy. The only thing to do with them is glue them to the wheels and hope for the best. Oil dampers and bearings are about all you can do for the Bull. The third shock mod and servo placement can help with the VLB but ... they are what they are.

I found the exact opposite. I fitted foams inside my Lunchbox tyres, a few rounds of gaffa type inside the tyre and glued the tyres to the wheels. I have much more stability and grip. Before doing this I had hardly any of the tyre actually contacting the ground as they ballooned.

I think that was more to do with the 100,000,000,000 HP brushless motor than the inserts Mark!

I must admit I was only running a sport tuned motor or less, and tire ballooning was never an issue. It was like trying to drive an R/C superball - the tires only touched the ground for a moment on the downward bounce before the vehicle leaped towards the sky again.

I actually think it's more so the gaffa tape (material tape) that's been tapped to the inside of the tyre. It's like adding belting to the tyre, the foam just makes sure it doesn't come off. It stops the tyre from bouncing and ballooning.

I do have very soft springs (the Lunchbox is not heavy afterall and most of the weight is unsprung in the gearbox), and light damper fluid, so my suspension does soak up the impacts well. Most spring sets supplied with alloy dampers expect you have a 1.5kg vehicle (or more) to hold up. Way too hard.

Bin the tyres and wheels, that is what I did with mine!

The spacers I added gave the front negative camber, lowered the suspension, and then the wheels and tyres made a real difference.

The tyres I found for £10 a pair (Bargain!) , the wheels were a lucky find, but they are a standard size.

Frog alloy adaptors (available on ebay) part ref 53913 convert the rear wheel hubs to 12mm hex, opens up a whole new world of "rims!!" :-)

Steve
