Hi everyone, I'm in Melbourne Australia and been following the alarming footage of the flooding in Queensland. I know there is quite a group of Australian TC members up there so I thought I'd just like to send on my regards and hope you are all safe despite the devastation. Many homes are destroyed and underwater, people and families are most important but beyond that I hope your RC collections don't succumb to the water. Keep safe, keep your chin up and best wishes from your Tamiyaclub mates

yea its disheartening to see all those riverside suburbs being inundated... like Boondal etc where there are tracks

also there are places under 20m of water (mind boggling!) including Ipswich - visited an RC shop there yrs back

Thoughts & Prayers are with y'all up north!

just caught on TV news "Brisbane Council will stop charging water rates..."

yippee yay! gee i'd hate to be billed for those 100s of megalitres that flowed thru and washed my house away

Not familiar with Aust toporgraphy, but are the flooded areas below sea level similar to New Orleans or just so much rainfall that the grounds are fully saturated and is a 1000 year rainfall. I heard the flooded area is greater than France and Germany combined, that is beyond my comprehension. Most material items are replacable but personal items such as photos are not. Is sad to learn and see the suffering of others.

The flooded areas are all above river level, which is above sea level. Torrential rainfal in Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley (where there was loss of life and walls of water with massive distruction) has flowed down the river system and swollen the Brisbane River to well above it's normal levels.

It's been a combination of weeks of 'English style' soaking rain that filled up the dams and ground water, then a monsoonal depression that lasted several days at the end which is where all the run-off water has come from.

I'm in the middle of all the flooded areas but my town is ontop of a big hill, so no real flooding here. We've just been cut-off on all sides from going anywhere until the water subsides. I did have 2 inches of water through my RC workshop. Only ruined the carpets. Made sure everything was up off the floor (including the new pool table). My backyard track resembled a jetboat circuit there for a few weeks. It's still muddy and not driveable, but the standing water has finally soaked away.

We didn't cop it as bad, but the bottom paddock at one of our properties was submerged, wrecked fences, etc. I suppose that's to be expected being right next to a river......

The biggest struggle that I had was the lack of internet etc.

We did not do too badly, only just over 2m (6ft 7in) of water through the garage. I live on the second (effectively third) floor of a unit complex and I got the majority of my tools and the car out on Tuesday night before the water came up. When I got up to check on the water on Wednesday morning it was not far from coming into the entrance to the building and the garage already had about 400mm in it. By Wednesday afternoon we had lost electricity and gas and would have had to swim to leave the building, luckily all of the camping gear including the lights and my barbecue are upstairs. The water peaked on Thursday morning and by Friday morning the garage was empty. Electricity was restored on Thursday and gas on Friday after eight and nine days respectively.

The flood levels in the CBD were about 1m below the 1974 flood but where I live they were higher than 1974.

The clean up is over for me except waiting for things to dry out but I know people that lost everything that they own as the water rose to the rafters and above on two story houses.

I hope that every one else is OK and not just those in QLD.
