ive been looking around since building my scorcher at christmas, still waiting for better weather to paint shell, in the mean time ive been looking for replacement shocks as mine leak like crazy and its yet to be run, i want to keep it stock looking and found these from rc channel, my question is are they any good, better than original and do they still leak, failing that can anyone suggest a way of making the original ones less leaky.

im wanting the car in top form ready for summer.

The problem with the Tamiya Buggy Champ style shocks is that there's no piston or bladder inside to compensate for the volume of the shaft entering/leaving the damper body. The result of this is you need a considerable air bubble inside the shock for them to work (sort-of) properly. If they are overfilled, they will squeeze the excess oil out the bottom of the cylinder when they compress.

just woundering if it would be possible or adviseable to remove the oil and fit an internal spring like on the hi-lift shocks.

If you're going to run the car: No, don't do that. The car already has springs, adding more springs to the shock bodies will likely make the suspension underdamped and too hard.

If you don't mind the car not looking box art stock, you should look into coilovers. There are a few examples of Scorchers and Buggy Champs done up this way on this club if you would like to see examples.
