The Monster Jam trucks are based on the Stampede chassis, it's a pretty tough bit of kit.

The standard 'Titan' motors aren't great though - fast enough, just not particularily hard wearing - My nephew killed his Rustler motor (stadium truck version) in about 4 batteries.

Apart from the Stampede, you got the Rustler and the Bandit, although I think they both use the same chassis base, but just swap out the arms and wheels.

The Stampede's transmission is used in both their brushed and brushless (VXL) versions, although you may need a few hopup gears to beef it up - check Traxxas's exploded diagrams for both trucks and compare.

I've stuck a B/L motor in my Slash (same transmission again) and it's holding up just fine

I can second what Twinset mentioned about the standard brushed motor. The chassis' are very tough, the electronics are either waterproof or in waterproof boxes - except for the motor, which also has holes for cooling. You can imagine what happens when driving through dirt, moist conditions etc. I think... It clogs up everything and the motor just shuts down. I would buy the VXL version of the truck if it's available. It may be way too quick for you, but Traxxas has prepared for that: The power supply to the motor can be set to 50% - which may well mean that with the VXL it still moves with similar speeds to the brushed version at 50% :)

Nice by the way to see Traxxas is finally making progress on making 'existing' bodies - They need to improve on shape on some (1/16th scale Rally shell just being one example), but it's a good step forward for them as a brand, it makes the cars look more seriously, not some tribal design joke (which makes you wonder what the quality of the cars itself would be).

think the Traxxas "MAGNUM 272" transmission comes with either metal or plastic gearsets;

all Slash and VXLs get the "brushless ready" metal gears but the others mightn't

we've got race guys retrofitting the plastic gears into Slash to reduce mass and they holdup ok
