Hi guy's,

I need some oil shocks, so what do you reccomend?

The front need to be around 70mm-75mm and the back need to be 95mm to 100mm.

I have looked at ansmann shocks, but they seem to cheap!!

Also do you reccomend dirt hawk tyres, mine are wearing very quickly with 8.4v!

thanks

Whats the aplication? The ansmann dampers are plenty good enough for bashing or running for fun. Worth making sure the oil level is even when you get them though.

Obviously for racing you would need to get some higher quality dampers.

Its just for a fighter buggy, ill only be bashing and maby a quick go at a track once a year.

So they should be ok then?

I have DF03 dampers on mine. Paid $45+post for the set. They are overkill on the poor handling DT01 chassis but the blue alloy looks nice.

I've never used Ansmann dampers before, so can't comment on their quality. Aslong as they are the right length, they've gotta be better than the kit pogo-sticks.

I have some decent alloy oil dampers on the front, but they are only 65mm, whereas i need 75mm.

I dont actually find the handleing too bad...i think a madbull steering linkage would improve it though.

I find it great for bashing on grass and dusty dirt tracks...soo much fun!

thanks

The Annsman shocks are okay for the fighter, I use them on my bashers, just make sure you replace the oil they come with, I've yet to have a set turn up full.

Are CVA shocks any good, or are they just over priced?

Do you get 4 shocks or only 2?

I think i will go for DF03 ones.

cheers

To keep costs down, and for a Fighter Buggy then Ansman will be an enough.

Whilst that chassis is limited, you need to think what issues you are trying to resolve - spring rate could be as much an issue as the damper itself. Can you actually see the springs compressing much when landing a jump, cornering ?

The CVA dampers are OK. These are the stock plastic oil filled dampers on a DF02/DF03. The body of the damper does flex a little which makes them a touch inconsistent, but I doubt you will notice this with your experience level or on the entry level DT01.

The DF03 alloys I have on mine are the Tamiya DF03 dampers #53926. Nice dampers, but still not the best out there.

I highly recommend you use the springs from the pogo-sticks as these are the right weight for the chassis. They should fit onto the alloy dampers (they fit on the #53926 set). The majority of the weight of a DT01 is in the rear diff, which is unsprung, so that actual part of the chassis you are suspending is quite light, hence the light weight kit springs. You would still use the kit springs on CVA plastic dampers, these will fit and I have tried it. Use 3 hole pistons when you assemble the dampers.

Th full kits are expensive purely because you tend to get Tamiya oil with them, and they like to charge gold prices for their oils. You can get Schumacher or similar silicon damper oil for abot £3 a bottle and do 8 shocks with it.

There are plenty of aftermarket shocks about that will perform equally well, possibly look better and are cheaper (as per your other thread)

I've build new sets for the rising Storm buggy for my son at Xmas, i refurbed a set on my Manta Ray Resto - they do seem to hold up quite well to age. I've not seen the ansmann dampers in the flesh but i'd say the Tamiya ones are nothing special to be honest.

75/100mm aluminium damper sets from Ansmann are about £7.50 per pair (modelsport).

The DF03 alloy set 53926 is about £93 (timetunnel) !

Provided the Tamiya RF springs are the right diameter for the ansmann damper body, go with Ansmann !

WOW! I paid AU$45 + post (about £25) for the last set I bought (I bought 3 sets at that price ex-Hong Kong). All the other sets I bought were around AU$75 (I have them on quite a few cars). I see a set on ebay at them moment for AU$54 + post. Timetunnel are expensive sometimes by the sounds of it.

They will be spot on. They come with a few spacers so that you can ad more tension to the springs if needed. I have the ansmann dampers of a few runners & they work well, despite the abuse they havent leaked either.

Regarding the tyres do you mean Dirt Hawgs from Pro Line? http://prolineracing.com/tires/dirt-hawg-i...ggy-rear-tires/ These are a great all round buggy tyre, hard wearing too.

Does the Fighter Buggy have 2.2" rear wheels though?

Ok, ansmann it is!

Yes, those are the tyres i think i should get for my fighter buggy.

The ansmann shocks are so cheap i could always buy a set of tamiya shocks aswell!!

Ooh yes, forgot to reply to that!

I cant find any modern looking 2wd wheels, is this just me?

I really wanted some yellow dish rims.

Search for "buggy wheels" on ebay. Bound to be some yellow dish wheels on there.

Just remember most wheels are hex fitting, which is ok for the rear of the Fighter Buggy, but the fronts aren't hex (unless you mod the axles).

I got a set of Ansmann 5 spokes and pin spikes last week - very cheap at £12, wheels look OK, but the tyres are very soft so wear will most likely be high. These are hex fitting front and rear though.. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=29294

Ansmann also do road biased sets which may be better for wear, especially if you run mainly on road (again hex fit all round).. loads of different combo's but as an example.. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/index.php?product_id=37954

Im happy with my sand viper wheels at the moment, just waiting for tamiya to bring out a new 2wd buggy so i can nick the wheels off that!
