Hello everyone I'm looking at getting my first Brushless system for my tt01 and then moving it into my tb03r when it arrives il be running it with 2c lipos. I've seen this set on bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EZRUN-5-5T-Brushless...#ht_4509wt_1026 and was wondering if anyone thinks this is a good setup for the price and wether itl suit the chassis especially the tb03 any help would be great!

You can't go wrong with EZRuns, for a cheap n cheerful brushless system. They do cog a bit at low speeds, but most sensorless brushless systems do, and for something like the car you're going to put it in "low speed" isn't reeeally going to be something you're too worried about is it? :(. I've no personal experience with them in an on road car (as all mine are off roaders) but I do know that the 8.5t with LiPo is mooore than fast enough for most of my cars, so 5.5 will probably be suitably mental!

I don't like my EzRun system because of it's cogging. Up to a speed at which I regularly walk, it has a tendency to cog (and not a bit either - it sounds a lot like a jackhammer).

I suggest you spend 20-30% more than on the EzRun system and you'll be able to get a much better sensorless brushless systems - and these unlike the EzRun have nearly no cogging. For example my Tamiya TBL-01 Brushless system (relabeled Team Orion brushless system - which by the way has been discontinued in Team Orion's lineup by now) has no cogging above the speed at which an Ant crawls around pretty much - and if it is cogging, it doesn't sound like Texas Chainsaw Massacre like the Ezrun - more like a Hard Disk of your computer :D Just to make a couple of strange comparisons, that although perhaps considered exaggerated by some, gives a clear picture of the contrast between the two.

In the basics, the EzRun is not a bad system though. If you only run full throttle all the time, and don't mind that it does look and feel like a B-Brand, it's a good system. For me though, it's absolutely not the best representation of the fun and benefits of running brushless...

Interesting.. what rating have you used and what car is it in? I've had 17.5t, 13.5 and a couple of 8.5t EZRuns and only ever had cogging when I put the 17.5t in a crawler (and even then it only cogged when trying reeeally slow stuff), or when I tried an 8.5t with a NiMh battery.

yeah they'll cog when run slow. Sometimes if you replug the 3 motor wires differently cogging is less.

For a few bux more you can go sensored Hobbywing XERUN, this will be a lot smoother.

Cheers for all the advice guys I'm going to look into the xerun that was mentioned but I'm trying to do this as cheap as pos at the mo. I dnt think the cogging will be that much of an issue as I'm just going to be bombing round my local car park top whack most of the time! Has anyone got any suggestions on gearing it to a tb03?

Admittedly its early days for me, but initial (tarmac) experience of the EZRun 9T 4300kV system (380 sized rotor) on my relatively heavy and 'thirsty' 4WD Hotshot suggests no cogging, even when running a 5000mAh NiMH battery pack

Ive not trialled dirt/grass yet, so maybe i will see problems - using full throttle sounds like a good solution though :D

8.5T/60A combo, 3200mAh 20C LiPo, fitted into a TB-01. My last option is to change the punch settings, but I don't think it will solve it. Gearing should be fine as well, the motor isn't excessively hot (neither is the ESC).
