Does anyone have an original price list of some older cars.

The ones I'm thinking about are Hilux, Sand Scorcher, Rough Rider, Ranger etc.

Or does anyone remember what they cost when new?

I seem to recall the Hilux being £250 or £260 in about 1983. Does this sound right?

Sounds correct us UK was and is a relatively expensive Tamiya market. In Germany you could find a Hilux some years after its release for only 500DM = 250 EUR or $!

Kits were usually expensive when a model was just released but were getting cheaper after 1-2 years... Porsche 959 for example was sold initally for 700DM! and later for less than 400...

Cheers for all the info.

It's quite amazing at how expensive they were. I would imagine the price in the states was less than Europe. So $500+ for the Hilux nearly 20 years ago makes todays prices for an imaculate one actually not so bad.

I'm quite glad i never had rich perants to buy me one when I was younger, if I'd of trashed it I don't think I would forgive myself now!![}:)]

well the prices changed over time when the bruiser showed up it was 415$ and droped to 289$ the mountanieer showed up at $309 and dropped to 239$ in 1994.

so its hard to gauge , in the early 80's tamiya usa didn't exist, MRC was the distributor, later they split, r/c cars didn't hit big till 1985.

If you will have a look at the box of the kit there are two numbers: one is the kit number 58... and the other is the price of the kit in Yen. So you can calculate approx. the price of the kit when it was new.

Yeah I've heard about this but my Hilux box does'nt seem to have these numbers on it. Does this mean something?

Also I have no idea what the Yen was worth 20 years ago, because that has changed, A LOT!!

I've brought this up again because I just found a leaflet in my Hilux body set that has prices for the cars upto 1981.

There is a date on the leaflet that says 12/81 and it includes the Ranger as the latest car I think. It is in Japanese so I assume these are the prices in Japan. I have used todays exchange rate of 190 yen to 1 pound.

Datsun 280ZX: £83.16

Lola: £136.84

Hilux: £173.68

Ranger: £100.00

Sand Rover: £51.58

Holiday Buggy: £51.58

Rough Rider: £94.73

Sand Scorcher: £100.00

Cheetah: £73.68

XR311: £68.42

Renault 5 Turbo: £68.42

Golf Grp.2: £68.42

Celica Grp. 5: £63.16

Countach C.S.: £63.16

Porsche 936: £46.32

Tyrrell 6 wheel: £51.58

J.P.S. Lotus C.S.: £83.16

Williams: £83.16

Ligier JS9 (non C.S.): £68.42

Ferrari 312T3: £57.89 [?]Why were Ferrari and Ligier different price[?]

Renault Mk.22 F2: £35.79

782 BMW F2: £35.79

Ralt RT2: £35.79

B2B Sidecar: £51.58

There is also a list of 4 tanks but I don't know which model numbers they are. But prices are as follows:

Most expensive: £184.21

second: £168.42

Third: £147.37

Forth: £126.32

Made interesting reading.

[:D]I originaly started this forum but I had the answers all along!! Doh[:D]

Yeah, sounds right. That is about £75.00

I am sure my prices were for kits sold in Japan, which would always be cheaper.
