Yes, totally agree, in days of old if you fell over and broke your leg at work you got 6 weeks off (probably partly paid and part non paid), these days people claim compensation.

I also have to say that the American compensation culture is likely partly to blame for this, but you buy aa motorhome and it has cruise control, that does not mean you can get up and go make a coffee, have a massive crash and blame the manufacturer as it says "cruise control" LMAO, i refer back to COMMON SENSE, so now when you buy a TOY it has stickers all over it saying "You may get hurt", dont go fast etc etc, i mean COME ONE PEOPLE GET A GRIP!!!!!.

When i was 17 at college I used to work a summer job at a pallet factory with nail guns (awesome break time nail gun fights used to break out LMAO), the safety brief back when i started was dont put your hand under the gun, keep it pointed down and be carefull, that was it, the rest was COMMON SENSE, which seems to have dissapeared these days.

Regards Insurance I can understand it these days with comp culture, crash your buggy into someones foot and suddenly they need 4 weeks off work (A job they likely hate!) all paid by your insurance, while they sit back, watch trisha/oprah and eat biscuits.

I fly RC planes and have to have insurance for that (large difference betwen a buggy at ankle height doing 35-40mph and a rc plane weighing twice as much doing 140mph FROM ABOVE!!!.

I also remember playing "army" aged about 12 when we all used air rifles as our guns, i remember once pulling a pellett out of my shoulder, trust one of my mates to be using those pointed pellets ;-)

At the risk of missing a joke, Nail gun fights sound neither safe nor the product of common sense.

Yes you missed 2 points, 1 was a joke and the other was we were 17 and we did wear safety glasses, i did not mind pulling 1 or 2 nails out of myself but not out of my eyes lol.

Myself and a few friends meet up ever two weeks in clumber park, this is us, ive been looking around for a clubs in the yorkshire area that lets you just pay your money, run and have fun, but so many rules, you must do this, you must not do that, what about having fun and enjoying the hobby, brca insurance and membership i dont mind, although im not likely to take up racing, has the world gone h&s mad or is it me.

No, it's not just you, it's everywhere. Note the loss of super clod due to the 3 tep speedo being considered 'unsafe' I guess it's thoguht you might burn yourself on the resistor. They've obviously been safe enough for the last 20 years, and I suspect a 'hot' modified motor would get up to a much higher temperature after an enthusiastic run than a 3 step resistor running a 540.

Inline with tamiyomans reminisces of 'unsafe' things done during teenage years, when I was a similar age I used to work in my summer holidays driving a County tractor dragging timber out of woods in hilly Wales. I can remember driving up terrain so steep I had to hold on to the front of the cab with one hand so I could steer with the other, and all you could see over the end of the bonnet was sky.

Dont take this the wrong way Mark but,

I have been racing r/c model cars on and off for nigh on 30 years. And almost every club I ran at, I either had to be a member and or have BRCA membership.

The BRCA membership is partly for insurance cover. Its not just there to dictate rules.

h+s does seem to be everywhere.i guess the spoiler element is that some things are so basic common sense that when your "reminded" of them it can seem abit degrading to your sense of intelligence.

on one hand it can be borderline offensive and on the other hand it can be hilarious.

example...i dont need reminding that if i gulp a drink of hot coffee im gonna get burnt lips..but its right there..on the paper cup!

i dont have a peanut allergy but i also dont need a label that reads "may contains nuts" on a bag of dry roasted peanuts??!!

same at R/C events..im sure 99% of mature racers/bashers would have a great time with the good ol fashioned unwritten ,unspoken rules of normal behaviour...

alas though, there can and probably always will be ,the 1% that didnt get raised to behave themselves/responsible for their actions.

they are the percentage that need to "reminded" that a buggy in the face aint cool, that a pit fire isnt an "improvised BBQ" and that secrectly turning your transmitter on during a race isnt sportsman-like! ;)

but i do agree that rules are rules, there are some specific elements that arent immediately obvious regarding any sport or activity (if your into boating,i learnt that a sail boat under wind power has right of way regarding motor powered boats.... makes sense once you know...but probably sail boat owners would tell of scary close calls)

but id like to think that if i wasnt sure of something id ask before i acted, just incase.

maybe instead of H+S lists ,we should have a big banner that says just that.

ahh the good ol' days .. just meet with somefriends and run your cars till you where knacked ! . then you join a club and suddenely there are rules , fees and such .

it was all fun , then the local council said that the ground they gave the local r/c club to put a track on must be open to '' little johnny '' to run his 10 dollar tandy car ...or ride his push bike on th track at any time he wanted , and no he didnt have to join the club to do it .. it also was powerless to stop the junkies moving in and useing the under the drivers stand as a '' shooting gallery '' .got sickof picking up used needles real quick i can tell you ! .. why did we have no control over our ground ? .........council by-laws !!! the club folded quickley after that ! .. on a side note .. when i was a young fella , all the dumb kids did dumb things , like playing on the railway bridge , climbing real tall tree's , ridding across the busy road with out looking first , seeing if petrol was reallly inflameble if you put it in a rubbish bin full of wet newspapers etc etc and became '' expired '' taking with them their '' dumb genes '' now days the powers that be legislate to protect the dumb and stupid , so doing, protecting the dumb genes to be passed on to they offspring , usually dumber as well , so they need more protecting from them selves than ever before .. we have revirsed mother natures '' natural selection '' process and the human race is dumbing down en-mass , scarey thought .. just google the '' darwin awards '' or '' stupid accidents ''.. we will be lucky to have any sports or pass time in the near future if we dont watch out ! .. ;)

@ commiedoor... ;) agree 100% well said!

i thought i was being overly kind by stating 1% are idiots, but iguess in the real world its higher!

..bring back natural selection! youre right...danger is naturally present to pick off the dumb..why stand in its way!

let them eat cake, i say...if they decide to confuse cake with explosive..so be it.one less to muddy the waters of the genetic pool. :D

Most clubs are organised and run by RC enthusiasts and volunteers, why should they do all the hard work building/maintaining a track, then sit around on site 24/7 untill some group of randoms decide THEY want to go play?[with all due respect]

We organise meetings of all sorts of meetings, both racing and bashing at our track, but the track is closed to the public at all other times. This is because WE are responsible for the site,if someone hurts themselves whilst a responsible adult is not present, there could be repercussions like the track getting closed.

Why not take responsibility yourself and start up your own thing, then when people start abusing your efforts ,you might start thinking differently.

RC car clubs have very little to do with H&S,they are usually run by average people who do have some common sence.

If you don`t like thier rules, then sort your own thing out,but please don`t bleat on about how you don`t like rules. No one likes rules, but some times they have to be put in place to try and protect the majority.

Rant over.

Have fun.

BR,

Simon.

Nail gun fights sound amazing :(

I only got "Stuck" around 3 times, they only went in about 5mm as we were usually about 30ft apart lol (Hiding behind palletts) and usually the head end hit first (heaviest end i suppose), they also came in handy when the big boss sacked our foreman and replaced him with a younger guy (our foreman had worked there since he was 16, some 30 years of service and they replaced him with a guy half his age for half his money, so when lunchtime came on his last day we went out into the car park and shot about 30 nails into each of the big boss's tyre sidewalls, it made our foreman laugh anyway!!!). :D

All the summer guys got togather (in protest) about 14 of us i think, and we all finished 2 weeks earlier than we said we would and gave our notice on friday afternoon and left and never went back, it caused them a afew problems and made us feel good lol. They tried to withhold our wages for "Not giving sufficient notice" but as we had no contracts one of the guys got his cousin (solicitor) to send them a letter and hey presto wages were paid within 3 days, IDIOTS.

Funnily enough the place shut down about 3 years later due to "Economic issues", i think it may have been partly to do with good ol H&S LMAO

They're also proof that if nail guns ever started sporting "please do not shoot at coworkers" stickers, they'd be absolutely justified.

Yeah possibly, but thats a way bit different to having a sticker in your car, saying "Drive carefully or you could be killed"
