Bearings/Ball Races

I have seen conflicting info on this so I thought I'd ask here. How are bearings measured? I constantly see 11 x 5mm which are two measurements. The bearings themselves obviously have three dimensions (OD, ID, and height). What measurements do the 11 X 5 refer to for the typical Tamiya bearings used for wheels etc? what is the missing measurement? My thinking in the case of the Tamiya bearings is the 11 is the OD and 5 is the ID. What height is typically used with tamiya bearings if this is the case?

1150 bearings are 11mm x 5mm x 4mm

not all tamiya bearings are 4mm deep mind!
