Hello All,

Who here is a Clodbuster and likes it? Does it run/perform nicely? Is it durable? Any recommendations or suggestions regarding it?

Thanks - look forward to feedback. [:)]

Clod/BullHead runs very nicely. Big balloon tyres, flashy chrome trim - really draws a crowd.

Top speed isn't fantastic (even with motors in parallel), but what would you expect from 540s?

Recommended improvements is, as always, full ballbearings - you'll need heaps of larger BBs. Single standard servo has a herculean task pushing four fat tyres so something high-torque is good, twin axle-mounted steering servos is even better. Suitable ESC is always good, as is lots of battery - ample room in tub to strap on multiple packs in parallel.

WORST feature with a Cloddy is that the temptation is so great to mod it:- new multi-link chassis, ally wheels, fancy steering, fancy suspension setups etc etc. I'd say most of the mod Clods owners out there would end up with enough 'leftover' bits to rebuild the original Clod! [:)]

I have a non modified Clod Buster, I run it quite a bit in the garden. When you tell people you actually built it they go yea right and I don't blame them since it looks a bit toyish and something you picked up at ToysR US.

I only bought my clod because the shop ran out of the TXT-1 and I was itching to built truck that weekend. [:)]

My very old clod (early 90's) is still working well with minor modifications : 4 amps batteries, 40 amps boat ESC.

This car has two major weak points : the superb body does not accepts flip flaps (obviously), and on of the gear case linkage breakes easily (the little bit with an L shape).

If anyone wants a chassis, arms etc, lemme know - I'm one of the above!

I think I am the only one who was surprised by its speed the first

time I drove it. (I thought it was slower).

One of its baddest thing if stock is that you can't climb anything

because it will immediatly stop with a tire lifted.

With a 4-link chassis you will be amazed on what he can do!

I run mine with titans motors and novak evx, actually the only things

I broke were 2 link rods when I crashed it against a rock.

(Oh yes the body is glued everywhere ..LOL)

I'm planning to lock front diff, this will help it climb better.

You'll have hours of fun with it.

Hi,

Clodbusters are the best cars ever! The customisation potential is limitless. They are good to have in standard form but you just have to go custom! They are very durable in terms of the gearboxes. They can really handle any power you throw at them. The axle tubes can break sometimes but only if you are stupid. I think I have proven that the Clod is better than the TXT1 with my project truck. Check out my showroom.

Thanks,

I love Clods as well. I'm in general agreement with the others here... out of the box it is a bit bumbly and nothing particularly special in terms of performance, but it is easily modded. You can go with top dollar production chassis (TTR, JPS) or homebuild something on the cheap. The simple design of the truck allows for very forgiving modding, and the layout of the drivetrain has a fairly low center of gravity for racing.

Something that hasnt been done with the newer centerline trucks like the TXT are 6WD conversions. Stuff like that is simple with a Clod, just throw on another gearbox. That what i did with my Clods, mushed them up into a 6WD. Check out my showroom, and if you're really bored check out this video here. Note that i don't have a Firewire interface or real editing software yet so it's stuck with the junky lossy USB transfer and MPEG1 codec. The movie is kind of heavy at 18MB.

Here is my project clod. Everybody who seen it at clumber park will remember it!getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img196_11102002172154_5.jpggetuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img196_31072002205657_3.jpg I think people were generally impressed by the performance and handling on the day. I'm really happy that something I made myself goes so well
