Electrical help with Super Champ

I recently purchased a Super Champ off ebay. The guy I bought it from failed to mention that it was an electrical nightmare! All wires had been spliced into and nothing seems to work, so I decided that maybe starting over would be the best solution.I want to keep this car period correct, so I purchased a new in box Mechanical speed controller (50172) for it. Now I have a SANWA Dash 27 MHz transmitter that came with the car that works and is in great shape that I would like to use, but the Sanwa reciever and both servos were also spliced all into and I would like to replace them as well. My question is can I use a modern SANWA sevo and reciever or do I have to try and locate old ones .
