I want to remove the rear tyres from my Falcon rims that I super glued on when I got the kit when I was a kid.

My brother got an Academy Road Runner II for Xmas the same year I got my Falcon, and the kit instructions for that suggested that the tyres be glued to the rims.

So my old man said I should do the same.

Now I want to dye the rims, but can't get the tyres off.

Is there a way to dissolve the glue without destroying the tyres or rims?

back when adam was a young pup , i used to race competitivly and we used a product from kmart or big w i think ? called '' superglue magic '' it softens and '' unsticks '' superglue so we could remove the tyres , unlike the rich guys who just threw the whole wheels away ! it was in a small white bottle with a yellow label ..or you can use acetone which is avalible in most hardwear stores , its used in fibreglassing , just dont get any in a cut or scratch .. gee it stings ..

another technique worth trying is the boil and freeze. boil the wheels in a pot of hot water, then stick them in the freezer. the extremses of temp chnge often cracks the super glue. i have used it to some degree of success with some touring car wheels.

using chemical debonders etc can be risky..it can result in melted rims..

freezing tended to leave lumps of superglue all around the the edge .. acetone or superglue magic never hurt and rims that i had ...

Thanks for the replies.

I'll try boil/freeze method first I think.

Acetone was fine on the front wheels when I cleaned the paint off them.

But another set of rears started to melt when I tried it.

I bought those rears a few years after I got the kit.

The original ones have the tyres glued on.

Did they change the plastic they used to make them during later production runs,

or have the fronts and rears always been different?
