How close is the blitzer beetle body to the sand scorcher body? Does it have wippers, mirrors and everything like the SS? The blitzer body can still be bought new right?

Posted

This one crops up a lot - hopefully the following will help (and before anyone comments - the paint work is not finished yet [;)] )

White = sand scorcher

red = monster beetle

black = blitzer beetle

rearwing.jpg

Obvious differences are mount holes, and wheel arches, the sand scorcher ones are a bit wider and have a fancy edge. Nose cones are all a bit different but I think pretty much fit each other without too much effort. Door handles are chrome parts on the SS but moulded into the body on the other two.

But the main difference is that the Sand Scorcher one has '1/10 RC VW Buggy' moulded on the inside of the body - and we all know what a difference that makes.

God is in the detail.

The BB body can be made fit to a Sand Scorcher. Everything is different as far as I know. Mirrors, wipers etc. are not on it, or at least not chromed or identical. If a Blitzer beetle bodyshell would be identical to a Sand Scorcher one, then a SS body wouldn't fetch those high prices...

The BB shell is molded in black, and the SS in white. The Monster Beetle shells came in white first, but later on they changed it to red, so painting was really needed anymore. The MB and BB shells also have the door handles molded to the shell, where the SS's are on a seperate tree to be glued on. I think this answers your question a bit, there is more but this is all I can come up with in a hurry... [;)] I hope this helps... [:)]

[:D] LOL [:D]

You're post wasn't there when I started, Chris. Great minds think alike.. [;)] Though you have got the pics to explain it even better! That was exactly what I was pointing at.

But as far as I remember, the Monster Beetle shell has "1/10 R/C VW Buggy" on it's shell as well, like the Sand Scorcher... Dunno about the Blitzer though...

I think if you have a monster beetle which says 'RC VW Buggy' inside you should take a little more care of it [;)]

All the monster beetle ones I have come across say 'Monster Beetle' inside.

I could be wrong...

Forgot to mention too that the windshields are tinted for the Monster and Blitzer but clear for the SS. All the last two have no transparent rear lights - unlike the SS nice clear lenses.

LOL [|)]

Maybe it was the white body shell that had the "VW Buggy" on it??? I dunno... [:I]

And there is a Chrome version of the body as well... (BB chrome Ltd.) [8D]

But to me, the SS will always be the nicest. Maybe not the most 'origional' choice to make - but you can't really blame me, can you? [;)] [:D] Detail amd realism is what I like... [^]

Ok, just to confuse everyone...In about 1991 I was staying with my Uncle in Leicster (I was about 14). i took my monster beetle with me and had been giving it some serious running in the fields around his house. Had a nasty crash which snapped the chassis (both sides) at the point where the body mounts meet it, and also destroyed the shell[:(!]! My Uncle took me in to the city to a department store (I forget the name) where I got a shiney new chassis and a new in box Monster Beetle shell[:D]. It was definately in a Monster Beetle box before you all ask. The shell was white (and its only since reading all your previous info etc that i've remembered this) and had chrome everything, door handles, mirrors, lights etc... I remember thinking that Tamiya must have supplied a slightly inferior shell with the kit to keep the price down as this shell had loads more with it. This is gonna hurt...ready... Being a grumpy impatient 14 year old i couldnt be ******* with all the fiddly chrome bits, so just threw the main shell together with the lights and glass and number plates. All the other little chrome details I tipped in to the bottom of my little tool box....never to be seen again! I dont have the tool box...or the beetle now. So you decide...what shell was it? MB or reboxed SS??? Whatever....i wish I still had it! [V]

Beetle meister you might have had a Scorcher body. If it was a scorcher body then you would have had to modify it to fit the Monster Beetle. You would have needed to drill the side mounts and relocate the front body mount hole. The MB shell does come with some chrome bits but they are only the head light bezels and VW emblem. The door handles are molded into the body and are body color.

Hummm...I dont remember having to relocate the mounting holes. I remember the door handles were very tricky and the wing mirrors too. I think there was some chrome to put around the front fogs too...although I'm not 100% about that.

Could you please confirm this: The Monster Beetle shell did come in white and red ONLY, right? If I got a black shell in my hands it definately is a blitzer one? Are the mount holes identical between monster and blitzer?

thanks

Monster Beetle and Blitzer Beetle shells are identical except for the color of the plastic they are molded in. The Blitzer Beetle shell will have Monster Beetle printed on the inside.

Nope, Blitzer Beetle nose cone is not the same as Monster Beetle or Sand Scorcher, it is a completely different shape, angled upwards sligtly and looks daft when mounted on an SRB chassis as the nose sits way too far off the front suspension bars. The Monster Beetle is the same as Sand Scorcher apart from the mounting lugs for the spot lamps which can be cut off. I've got all 3 sat here. Original is the best!!!!

Good pics, that's an excellent reference.

My white Monster Beetle shell says "RCC Monster Beetle" inside, and my black Blitzer Beetle shell says "RCC Monster Beetle" too.

Haven't got an SS, so can't comment on that one though [V]

I didn't say anything about the nose cones because as you stated they are entirely different. The main shells on the other hand are identical except for the plastic color

BeetleMeister you might be onto someting here as i remember in the early 90's getting a nib blackfoot,mudblaster,monster beetle shells

cheap from the (now sadly gone) best lhs store bristol has ever had.

the monster beetle shell in the box (i love them old brown shell box's! they have a real ) was a scorcher shell as it also had crome detailing and two wind screens clear and tinted but the rest of it (decals, etc) were monster beetle it was also formed from white plastic too! and all this time i thought it was a one off as other 2 nib monster beetle shells i got in 96' were more or less what you got with the kit with only crome headlight rims! wish i still had them tho!

So any black shell should be a Blitzer, Right? Then why does my BLACK shell says "RCC Monster Beetle 58060 Tamiya 1986" on the inside? When was the Blitzer released? Later, I thought. Did Tamiya also put the "1986" date in the newer Blitzer shells?

thanks

Because as Jim said earlier, the Blitzer Beetle main shell is the same moulding as the MB except that it is black. It still has 'Monster Beetle etc.' stamped inside (at least both of mine do!)

yes the blitzer shell is made from the mb mould, (just the shell part, not the nose!!!!) [;)]

so it will have monster beetle inside it, as it would have cost tamiya money to change the mould to say blitzer beetle on the inside!

youve got to remember tamiya love to use old parts on new kits, like the monster beetle gears have blackfoot on them, or the juggernaut has parts with rc clod buster on them - if they use the same part on different kits they aint going to waste money changing the mould to read a different name [}:)]

when they used the mb shell on the blitzer i gess tamiya neva thought of us guys writing loads of debates about it [;)]

so all blitzer shells have monster beetle inside them - because they are made using the old mb tooling,

still the scorcher shell looks the best lol [8D]

id="quote">id="quote"> Not quite, the Blitzer says "RCC Monster Beetle 58060 Tamiya 1986" whereas the MB just says "RCC Monster Beetle". Could be something they changed with the later MB shells though, adding the copyright bit.

id="quote">id="quote">I like the way Tamiya have done that, it means that if you are keeping more than a few of them running, it's often easy to salvage unused bits from the other ones if something breaks [:)]

If you haven't noticed, nearly ALL parts tree of the Monster Beetle say 'RCC Blackfoot'... That's because a Monster Beetle IS a Blackfoot. To some extend at least - I know, I know: Wheels, tires, oil dampers, and the rear bumper and other insignificant differences... [;)]
