Hi, just upgraded to a Durga. Have bought a slipper clutch and one way front diff. What is the advantage of the one way front diff??

Also, just wondered what is the most cost effective fast motor and roughly how much. Either brushed or brushless. Also which pinion should I use.

Thanks to you all, an enthusiastic beginner.

The one-way diff is a tuning part. It can give more steering at the expense of off-power stability. For the racetrack only.

Motor-wise, a 6.5T sensored motor would be as fast as you would ever need for racing. Pinion will depend of track and ESC settings, perhaps a 19 or 20 tooth to start with. For bashing, the motor is less important, the Durga has a pretty wide range of possible gear ratios so you should be able to get anything to work OK. I wouldn't spend money on a brushed motor apart from the £10 sealed-can motors these days - too much maintenance if you want to go fast, but fine if you don't mind going slow.

I have a Baldre and have a 13.5T ezrun Brushless system & LiPos in it. If you go brushless you'll definitely want LiPos too. With this setup it clears all the double/triple/tabletop jumps at my local BMX track and has decent straight-line speed. I'm using a 26T pinion, but could probably fit a 27T, anything bigger than that would need a smaller spur. The motor only gets mildly warm so could stand a little longer gearing.

Any of the ezruns I think are well worth the price, mine was about £50 delivered including ESC and programming card. I'd always go for one of the n.5T motors though as the nT motors are 380 sized in a 540 can.

Hop ups for me so far are:

  • Slipper clutch
  • front suspension mounts + balls (replaced after breaking the front left side clipping a rock, cracked the damper too :P)
  • TRF dampers & springs (see above for reason)
  • Proline Dirt Hawg tyres all round - great all-round bashing tyres, more grip on every surface than the kit tyres.
  • Ballraces for the steering assembly

On order:

  • ceramic diff balls + new plates both ends

Want but can't find in stock:

  • 501x diff outdrives

The standard kit ball diffs seem pretty pants to me...
