What would people recommend for a cheap reliable, but not nasty radio & servo system? I need to buy a few for my projects I have on the go. Since they are going to be “Bashers” I don’t need anything fancy.

I have always had Futaba and never had a problem

I would highly recommend the Futaba 2PL 2.4GHz transmitter and receiver set. For about USD100 its a great combo.

I have been using it for both my HB Cyclone TC with an 8.5t brushless and my F104W Wolf with not a single glitch for over a year.

I will be passing my 2PL over to my TamTech cars as I will be upgrading to a Sanwa M11X soon once I've got my 5.5t motor in the TC.

I'd be looking at something with model memory like linked above, much cheaper just buying a new reciever for your runners. Only issue is if you plan on running more than one at once (Wife, Kids, Friends etc).

My Spektrum DX3R has 30 model memory ;) , so I've still got a few cars to get.

I was looking at something like this Futaba 2PH 2-Channel AM/2 S3003 Servos as I don't want to spen big dollars for cars that I will not take to a "race track"

I like the idea of a model memory system but I still want to be able to get a few out at a time.

and given the extra Rxs are $6 each, you can buy a single Tx/Rx set plus 4 extra RXs , all for under $50 and have 5 cars ready for use

Pretty maybe not, functional yes, and cost effective most certainly.

+1, although KalEl63 did mention he would like to get them out together

I started out standardizing with 3 Futaba 3PM 2.4GHz systems and buying R603FF receivers to put in everything. The idea was to be able to bind any toy to any transmitter and run.

After spending a small fortune buying receivers for the entire collection I realized that I can get a SkyFly transmitter (essentially the same things as the HobbyKing one linked to above) and 10 receivers for the retail price of a single R603FF. I started testing with the FS-GT2, and now have a FS-GT3 and FS-GT3B (ran out of memory slots in the GT3.)

I still use the Futabas for the toys that get raced, but my entire vintage collection, which all run but don't get brought out much, has now been switched to a FS-GT3 and FS-GT3B.

Very good point, may consider it myself, as each Spektrum reciever costs me $50 + or - a few.

Yeah they ARE butt ugly, I have a couple, but for my re-releases and bashers

I have one installed in my re-re scorcher and it's great having the short antenna inside the radio box so the antenna isn't going through the lid.

Also I'm getting far better range than AM sets and I can get sand in it, drop it etc and it doesn't matter.

It feels no different to Acoms stuff or recent entry futaba stuff (2DR/2ER etc), as long as you can get over the fact it looks like it was made by Hot Wheels

and that 70's pastel mandarin-orange colour, your good to go  Well worth their money!

Is that a TX or a PC with a steering wheel? :D

It's the hottest radio system to come out from Korea instead of Japan. It's been getting really good reviews too.

I'll be getting one once the big vendors like Tower Hobbies gets them.

I have one of the cheep Eurgle radios Link

I have not had many issues and those that I have had can be put down to user error. The newer version seems to be the same as the Hobby King radio linked to earlier (also Turnegy and a few other brands) Link

Most of the guys driving at Boondall regularly are using these radios as you can not argue with the cost. We have been getting them from a Tamiya Club member who is importing them into Australia along with a lot of other gear.

While the quality is not as good as the major manufacturers we have had few problems with these radios and I can recommend them for general use.
