Tough choice between the Lunchie and the Pumpkin. I feel to sorry for Vanessa to drive one of her chariots so I'd go with Mr Everett. I have 3 Pumpkins and only 2 never ran Lunchboxes, so I'd say Pumpkin. Willy is not really in the same league I'd say as the even shorter than short chassis puts it in another group. Not a bad ride but I get bored running mine rather quickly compared with my Pumpkins. It does have better steering than the other 2 though. :)

All three kits are pretty much the same in terms of what they do: 2WD Wheelie trucks. The Lunchbox and Pumpkin are identical except for the bodyshell, so when it comes down to it, it's not really about what's "best", it's about which one you like!

As for cheapest, I tend to use either www.stellamodels.net which are based in Hong Kong, but even with the extra shipping costs work out cheaper than the UK, and generally only take about 4-6 days from order to delivery or www.goldstarstockists.com who are UK based and tend to be cheaper than places like ModelSport for kits, but I do tend to use ModelSport for accessories and bits simply because of the speed at which they deliver.

Like with most things though, it's worth finding a kit you like, and sitting on Google for an hour to find the best deal.

I can add to this (having just got a Lunchbox myself). I guess it really depends on your motivation, The Lunchbox is considered one of the classics in Tamiya's lineup, In my opinion, everyone should have one :) , The Pumpkin is perhaps not quite (ever so slightly) as significant.

The WW2 would be similar in performance, and is on my wish list, but nowhere near the Lunchy or Pumpkin. A WW1 on the other hand..............

As already stated the Lunchbox and Pumpkin are effectively the same vehicle with different bodies, so you could buy a kit and and extra body and have say a Lunchie as a runner, and the Pumpkin as the shelf body. That way you get two models :)

The WW2 is another classic, but with an even shorter wheelbase can be more of a handful to control. All three have their limitations by virtue of short wheelbases, high cente of gravity, bouncy tyres and basic chassis/suspension design. Its part of their charm.

I'd say buy the Lunchbox (its the cheapest kit anyway), and then buy either a Tamiya pumpkin body or another different body that you fancy (there are loads available from various manufacturuers, just check dimensions before ordering) to give you a second look.

You don't say where you are based but in the UK..

wonderlandmodels.co.uk are generally the cheapest, they are pretty good with bundled packages too (ie battery, slow charger and radio gear)

modelsport.co.uk are another big UK seller, as are

goldstarstockists.co.uk

and also look at fusionhobbies.com (UK based) who give some discount to members, more so subscribers, to this forum (and will price match anyway)

Everyone should have a Lunchbox at some point - great fun

Well, after getting rid of several Pumpkins and Boxes, i still hang on to my Willy. B) It´s great fun to drive, and i my opinion it handles somewhat better than the other 2. :P

Cheers..
