Hi guys, I got out of the loft for my young son, my old Monster basher (16 wheel affair - it was great fun - could climb up anything!) but when it came under duress it stopped and I could hear the gears slipping. I opened the gearbox up to find the pinion was loose on the small motor shaft and I believe was slipping round with no grib. I removed it for closer inspection and its falling apart so I'm sure that is the problem. The question is, does anyone know where I may be able to get a few similar pinions that would do the job and fit snuggly onto the motor shaft? Attached is a pic, any help on this would be greatly appreciated, many many thanks!

what size is the motor? All I can think of is either take it to a shop and see if they can match something up, or possibly try a shop that does trains or scalectrix cars, it looks very small from this photo.

Hi there, yes its a tiny motor. Are there any 'bags' of small plastic 'push on' style pinion gears I could purchase from somewhere do you think??

how many teeth on the pinion? shaft diameter?

have a look around, many RCs using 130-270 size motors from MiniZ to MicroRS4s which have pinions around that shaft size

you could even checkout the 130s used in Tamiya Mini4X4s

8 teeth on the pinion Willy - no idea about shaft diameter, I don;t have anything small enough to possibly measure it :(

Hey Willy have you got any ideas of anyone on here who can mould a body shell? I know you do a fantastic job with decals, but can't remember if you knew anyone for bodies??

Many thanks

just lexan forming or making the actual moldbuck?

thought you'd be (with Robin Hood?) in Kamtec's backyard for the lexan forming

making the actual mold is a big job both in $$/time/effort & the resulting heavy lump.

Depending on what you start with eg CAD data you could get it CNC milled

or some just carve from clay or Plaster-o-Paris.

Just after getting a lexan/polycarbon copy of a bodyshell I already have

when i was much younger , i had a heap of 1/24 th mototorized tamiya wire-remote tanks . the small motors in the gear box had plastic pinons about that size .. worth a look ?

some servos might even have that on their drive motor

just need something with roughly the same diameter, +/- 1tooth probably won't matter

teeth that small won't make much difference what tooth profile it is either

Thanks guys, you are truly awesome and I appreciate all of your efforts in helping my son and I

Fingers crossed I will get the correct pinion! I have ordered the plastic one (thanks Champ85) and have emailed the other website about the motor as I take it the pinion on that pic comes c/w with the motor (thanks Commiedoor).

Fingers crossed - any other ideas/suggestions though, please do fire away I'd be more than happy to have a gamble!

Why don't you mould one yourself. I've just done one -see pic, and I'll be putting up a thread showing how to do it. Basically you use 'Blue' foam which is carveable and sandable, shape it, then fibreglass (Epoxy) over it. Then you can carve out / melt out the Blue foam leaving you with your body.

Pic shows mine not quite finished.

I just happened to catch this, but about the motor and pinion. I'd say roughly an inch long with a 2mm shaft, mass produced by Ideal a division of Viewmaster in the late 80s to early 90s and they made a bunch of different items. A 10 pitch pinion was typical and pressed onto the shaft. Those are fairly common and sell cheap on Ebay. At that time Ideal owned the rights to the Erector name and that motor appeared quite a bit. However they didn't stay in the market for long. I have a couple of them and recognized it. This was a couple years before Meccano purchased the name so they may have used that motor as well. You can buy entire sets from those years for next to nothing, too much plastic and had no collector value.
