Hi All,

This is my first post!

I am restoring a tamiya grasshopper (original), I have added a new servo, mtroniks esc, rs 540 sports motor, new tyres and wheels etc etc and it's coming along great, this sonly my second restoration!

I need help though if possible please, I have the sports motor and I got the 18t pinion gear as mentioned in the grasshopper manual, but I'm having trouble getting the 'teeth' of the pinion to meet up an connect properly on the large gear wheel...!??

Is this 18t pinion gear actually the right one that I should be trying to use, or should I be using a larger size??

As I say this is only my second restoration (waited years to have a tamiya rc car) now at 38 years old I now have 2, my first restoration was on a TL 01 chassis.

Many thanks for your help.

There is only one size pinion that fits and only one set of mount holes, so if it's not lining up my guess is you have the wrong pinion. You need a 18 tooth 32dp steel pinion.

If the manual says it needs an 18T perhaps you just have the wrong pitch / teeth size?

Did you remove the plastic B7 part when fitting the 540 motor?

Mark

Hi, what is the B7 plastic part? ( sorry I'm new to this) :-)

Many thanks

Mark.

If you don't have the manual for the car, I suggest you download one online. When fitting the 380 motor to the car, there is a black plastic piece (referred to as B7 in the instruction manual). It is part #7 on the "B" parts tree. This piece is installed between the motor and the gearbox. This piece needs to be removed when fitting a 540 motor.

I see what you mean you now, thanks for your help. I will have another go at trying to fit the motor today and getting it to align properly. I'll let you know how it goes!

Many thanks

Hi All,

Many thanks for all your help with this, I've realised that I ordered the wrong pinion!!!

I have now ordered th correct pinion, the 18T 32DP (I think it is), so when arrives next week I'll fit it and it should go like a dream!!! I'll post a couple of pictures too!

Thanks for all our help :-)

Mark.
