I am thinking of buying a ServoNaut SMX Sound Module for a Scania R470

I just wanted to know if a normal Futaba ESC (which is £30) will work fine with the SMX sound module rather than forking out 199.00EUR for a M20+ ESC

Thanks

It SHOULD work with a regular type ESC also, but you´d be better off spending the last bit and get the M20+ also. This controls all lights on the truck too, you know. (blinkers, low/high beam, brake and reversing lights).

Furthermore, the M20+ offers "Cruise Control", electronic "shift" into reverse only available after fully stopping the rig.. Oh, and it has a setting for "free-revving" too, so the truck won´t move when applying throttle.. It will only make noise, lol. Very useful when operating dump beds or dump trailers..

I have now 3 trucks with M20+ and SMX-combo, and they are all supersmooth to operate, and very realistic. I also use Integy 65 and 75 turn lathe motors in all of them. ;)

Cheers..

I am thinking of getting a Servonaut SMX sound module with a S20 Speed Control and maybe a ML4 Light unit for my Scania R470 and need your help on a few things...

Firstly could i run the SMX, S20, ML4, Steering Servo and Shift Servo on a Futaba 4VWD Transmitter and and R124H 4-channel Reciever???

If i need more channels, what should i do???

Or would an SMX run with say a normal Tamiya TEU-104BK ESC???

Would this overcome the channel problem???

Or instead of buying an S20 ESC should i buy a M20+ ESC???

Would i still need more than 4 channels???

Or could you buy a MFC-01 Unit and replace the sound unit for a SMX module???

Sorry if im asking too much but the newbie needs help

If you could i would be grateful if someone could find me a solution to all of this

if you take a look at this vid i want my truck to be very similar to this, but don't know where to start!!!

Thanks

Hi im sure the servonaut m20+ is an esc / lighting kits all in one plus 7.2v & 12v for sound you will need the smt. ive ready on sevonaut web sometime back you can use from 3channel upto 7 most use futaba rx & tx unless you got buckets of cash for a full servonaut setup.

if you google servonaut m20+ you should get a better idea,

if your uk give dirtydan an email @ orandadesign@aol.com im sure he can sort you a setup or advise you

I have narrowed it down to 2 options for my Scania R470 as i only have 4 channels...

I'm either going to get a MFC-01 unit or a Servonaut SMX with an S20 Speed Control

I'm drawn towards the MFC-01 because it has everything, light and sound: its better value for money

but i'm drawn towards the SMX with S20 option because it has a much better sound

What do you think is best???

Still, i´d prefer the Servonaut-solution.. Yes it is more demanding when it comes the number of channels, but it is also more "precise" compared to the mfc in my opinion.. Quite often, when running mfc´s, i have found that the engine sound is somewhat "delayed" when accelerating and stopping.. And furthermore.. Have you ever heard a 1:1 truck where you can actually HEAR the blinker-relay OUTSIDE the truck? Ridicoulous feature in my opinion.

Anyway. om my trucks i use the Futaba FF7 2,4 gHz systems, and i have only just got enough channels. (one for throttle, one for steering, one for activating dump beds, one for the M20+ lighting, one for switching on and off the SMX-sound, one for rotating beacons and one for shifting gears)..

Remember that the S20 only has onboard systems for braking and reversing lights, so you will need something like the ML4 unit to activate more lights, if you choose the S20.. (My setup in my Wedico loader consists of Futaba FF7, Servonaut S20, Servonaut SMT, Servonaut ML4, and Servonaut BMA (for hydraulic-control)...But here the ML4 was needed to turn on the lights and the beacon.

I know what you mean, that blinker relay is annoying!!!

The thing i especially like about the SMX's Scania V8 sound is that once you let go of the accelerator, the turbo whistle sounds cool

So I think I have decided on the SMX with S20 option rather than the MFC-01

With the S20 I will have to buy 4 LED's, 2 for reverse lights and 2 for brake lights

If you buy these seperately, you literally get the LED on a wire

how would i connect them to the S20 unit???

All Servonaut-modules has positive outputs for all lights in the same place, and are all controlled through the negative port. On the S20, the light-ports are pin-type, and fits with a servo-plug. There is 1 positive terminal, and 2 negatives, marked "brake" and "reverse". B) Remember to solder some resistors to the LED´s before connecting them to the unit, otherwise they will die. 220 or 270 ohms on the reversing LED´s (white) and 470 on the brake LED´s (red)..

As you mention, the sound of the blowoff is rather cool, and even more, as far as i know, the SMX-module monitors the power consumed by the motor, so when pulling heavy loads on inclining roads, the turbosound wil kick in earlier as it would on a 1:1 truck raising the turbopressure for more power. :P

The best constellation is by all means when using either the K30 T or K40 esc system with onboard computers. These will allow you to shift the gears electronically through the ESC, making way for a great sound when shifting, and activating the blowoff-sound at the same time, as those modules synchronizes the inputs for shift-servos, throttle-response and sound-modules..
