Fix back the new arm using the stock screw

Uses 2 x 5mm ball connector nut, 1 x 18mm threaded shaft, 2 x 5mm adjuster, 1 x 16mm screw, 1 x 18mm screw

For the steering arm, uses back the shorter existing arm, the other side, uses a 42mm threaded shaft, 5mm adjuster, and measure till you get 28.5mm

Rear End: (before you do this, change the bevel gear, cups and dogbones first)

Remove the lower and upper arms, shocks like the front End

Next, use E1 of the DF03Ra suspension arm

Noted the direction

Install the rear upright,at the top, install a 5mm ball connector nut with 3x16mm screw, as shown

Because the DF03Ra arm is shorter, you will need to drill a hole as shown for the screw to pass thru.

Bevel gears, cups, dogbones:

Because we have narrowed down the width, the stock dogbones and cups cant be used anymore.

This is what i have done to changed and make everything work

Firstly, if you have already fix up the HB2010, too bad, you have to remove it to access the gears... For those who is only starting the build,do this 1st to ease the mod.

Stock HB 2010 gears

a14af1ff.jpg

Change the stock bevel gear to splined bevel gear (bottom stock, top new)

You can get these from either DT-02, DF-03, TL-01 spare parts,

Stock cups compare with new cups

Install back as per normal, for the dogbones, u will need 48mm length

Very nicely described and many thanks for the photos. It sure clears up a lot to me. After seeing all that...... I think I'll just finish my paint job and leave it nice and wide.

Thanks for the great step by step guide. Do you run this kit? If so I was wondering how the paint job is holding up and what you used to get that lovely satin black effect. I'm thinking of painting mine but have heard horror stories of how it'll flake off etc... although I've not actually seen anybody with a flaky buggy yet

You've done a great job, it really changes the look of the buggy. I'd like to reduce the wheel base at the front but maybe not as much as this.

Its a shelfer..... The paint WILL peel off.... Its already peeling @ the top @ e clip area. I used normal spray paint for the color.

Thanks for the comments guys

Is this different to the way the the 101 guys have done theirs?

I'm kinda hoping Tamiya milk the HB2010 for all it's worth with a variety of body colours in the same way they are doing with the Buggy Champ. :)

I can agree with that. Maybe a yellow and orange will do nicely for myself, a green one for my son Neo, He likes green a lot and a shocking pink as in shocking pink for my baby Girl Tatiana who incidently is celebrating her 4th birthday today. She has already claimed my Blitser Beetle(Herbie in her eyes) as her own so I need a pink replacement something pronto.

If you rub back the body, then apply a plastic primer before the paint, it will adhere quite nicely.

A lot of sanding involved though! :)

That's some very nice work there. Just a quick thought. Would it be possible to use TT-01 drive shafts for the rear, then you wouldn't need to replace the bevel gears in the diff or the drive cups ?? (The original drive cups look the same size as TT-01)

That's crying out for a set of sand scorcher wheels and tyres :)

There's a slight differ to 101, they are using the hard to find original wheels n tires, rere frog/brat rear axles to go along w it, cutting down the front lower arm, changing the shock tower......

Mi idea is to reduce the width while using back as much stock parts as possible.

TT drive shaft might work, but you will have problem w e dogbones length..... I dun have any TT drive shaft dogbones laying ard to try out

Its possible to use the srb wheels n tyres, juz change the rear drive axles to those found on the rere-frog,brat,grasshopper.....

Look to 101 for the mod instruction

Fantastic stuff - I was sure this must be possible using stock parts, but wasn't sure how it could be done. Making the (relatively) cheap HB2010 look even more tempting now!

LOL, I can't tell if that was a serious post or not. :)

Would it not be easier to just dye the whole body instead of painting? Or is that not possible with this material?

It might easier/possible..... Anyone willing to try it out?

This is just a fantastic example of the creativity and modeling skills available here on TC. I've seen several approaches to this mod, but this is just outstanding. Thanks for the picture tutorial!!!

It's made out of similar material to Tupperware, so you should be able to stain it easily with chilli or curry :)

I started ordering the bits,

the 48mm shafts are part# 50939 (cheers to VTRSP1 for that too)

Splined diff outdrives 53218

drive cups (wheel stub) 50823/9805369

Diff gears are on ebay, search tamiya diff* and there's a few - just check the photo for splines - part number is 50602 but 'Tamiya Diff*' brings up cheaper alternatives (best price currently is £3.45 including P&P, PM for link if needed)

I think I got the rest in spares boxes, total so far for NIB parts, just over £29 (incl DF03RA arms pack)
