Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, and have recently acquired a Terra Scorcher which is nearly 100% complete, but I need wheels and tyres and the front lower wishbone part which attaches to the front gearbox casing.

Are there any good mods to do on this motor, i.e Bodywork, tyres. suspension parts, motor.

TIA Rob

The Terra Scorcher came with several tuning parts like all ball bearings, front universal shafts, rear stabilizer bar and adjustable upper suspension arms, so there isn't a lot you can do to improve it. It's actually good as is! A hot motor and an electronic speed control would of course be nice. Just make sure you keep the old original parts!

The white wheels for the Terra Scorcher are exclusive to that model. The Thundershot, Thunder Dragon and Fire Dragon came with the same wheels, but molded in black. Also, "gold plated" wheels were available as an optional part (item number 50343). The tyres were of course used on the all the mentioned models, but also as rear tires for The Falcon, The Striker and Sonic Fighter. As such, they are relatively sought after and not so easy to find. Also, the tyre and wheel size used on these cars is quite uncommon, so if you intend to run your Terra Scorcher, I suggest you use the wheels and tires from the Manta Ray. The tyres (item number 53059) look quite like the original Terra Scorcher tyres, and the dish wheels (0335102) are light grey in colour and not too different in design. To mount them, you would need to replace the original (easily cracking) triangular wheelhubs with the (item number 53056) hexagonal Pin Type Wheel Adapters. All these parts are readily available from Tamiya, and not too expensive either. The "front lower wishbone part" (A5) is definately the weakest point of the Terra Scorcher. It's on the A-parts gearbox parts tree (0005300) and was quite difficult to get hold of even back in the late eighties when the model and the spare parts were in Tamiya product range as so many owners needed new ones all the time. Ebay would be my suggestion, but expect to pay much for it.

I can back that up. I got a whole bunch of A trees in a big find of parts I had, but they were nearly all missing the A5 piece. I don't think its actually the hardest piece to make your self out of alluminium or something similar...

If it is the A5 part, I managed to fix mine by stretching out a large jubilee clip, cutting it to length and then bending it to fit over the top of the original plastic, and then drilling holes through it. You can either make the holes small enough that the pins actually thread into them, but I'm not sure that will be the strongest option. I replaced the pins with long bolts on mine, and then had to modify the steering linkage to allow for the nuts on the other end - a bit of hassle, but it seems virtually bullet proof now.

If you want some pics, I can take some for you. In fact I might take some anyway.

If the part you want is actually one of the blue wishbones, I've got a couple of spare ones. Let me know if you want one.

Thanks guys for your posts, that certainly helps a lot. Ref to miramar reply, out of interest my Terra Scorcher has been modified with ball races, front U.J's, rear stab bar and adjustable upper suspension arms front and rear, not that it will make much difference to my driving! I'll try the different wheels and adaptors and see how I get on.

Regards

Rob

The tuning parts you mention were included in the Terra Scorcher kit, but were separately sold tuning parts for the other cars in the series (Thunder Shot, Thunder Dragon and Fire Dragon).

Thanks miramar, I realised what I'd written after I read your post again, and theres me thinking it had been modified, never mind, told you I was new to this, thanks again. Rob.

Thanks gruntfuggly, it is the A5 part I require, I think some kind of repair is in order here, the bottom wishbone arms appear to be OK for now. Rob.

Hi all.

I am in the same boat with my Thunder Dragon, A5 is broken.

Gruntfuggly, a picture of what you have done would be nice. I have got a few ideas but a look at someone elses would be good.

Its great to come across a friendly forum ..... I haven't seen any flame wars yet so that makes a pleasant change [:)]
