Get yourself to Kamtec and stick a lexan Rough Rider body shell on it!

You know what, that's exactly what I'm going to do! Thanks for that, I really wanted to change the shell but couldn't think what to put on it. Was it you that did this most recently Crispy?

Yep, fits like a glove.

I'd say it's the best body swap I've ever done, I'm surprised Tamiya hasn't released it considering their love of the DT02 chassis! The only real mod I made was a simple bracket to allow the rear body mount to attach a little lower to the rear shock tower, otherwise I just used the existing DT02 body mounts.

Here's the build thread I did for it:

The first couple of photos showing the full chassis with the shell on are the unmodified body mounts.

Wow that looks great!

My Holiday Buggy shell is in a similar state to Steve's - except its the roof and spot lights that have taken a beating - I have fitted a Sand Viper shell to it but its so boring to look at :( So tempted with this Kamtec one!

The Kamtec shell is a beauty, I can also confirm that the official Tamiya decals fit perfectly as seen below on my earlier Hornet chassis version.

Newest member saying hello, I have placed my order this morning after figuring out I could spend my reward points on Amazon and clearly had to buy something Tamiya. :D

It was a close call between a HB or Brat and although the Brat looks like a nice build this thread convinced me that the HB just looks like a hoot to drive B)

I am thinking of whacking my spare GT tuned in there so which pinion will I need to order?

Thanks

Andy

Hi Andy - stay with a 17 tooth pinion (the motor will more likely overheat on a 19t pinion), but buy an aftermarket steel pinion such as one from Robinson Racing.

Well it arrived today :D I have to say it's not packaged quite like the other kits, more thrown in a box but I guess that's the budget nature of the kit.

Piccys :)

I am not sure why they will not rotate correctly as I adjusted them in photobucket...

Sweet! Build thread build thread!!! ;)

Haha! I need to finish the lunchbox first :P

The photos seen to display ok on my pc so maybe its just my ipad that would not rotate.

p.s. can anyone spot the cat paw

Careful it's a little known fact that cats like stealing NIB Tamiya kits :P

Well my Jack Russells like nicking stuff out my model bin, that's a bin used for chucking model stuff into not a 1:10th scale bin :huh::huh:

Have you got a thread for ya 'Lunchie'? and if not WHY NOT!!! :P:D:D:D;)

Very true, if I don't keep the boxes close my cat steals the bagged contents and chews the corners off the bags....... Pesky thing

I am taking pictures as I go along but the lunchie is a slow burn partly due to work and also I am waiting on the sports tuned motor and CVA's from HK, tbh though I will most likely build her stock and then take bits off to fit the new parts lol

Thought it was about time to give my old HB a new driver since he lost his cowboy head last year and I've loved what people have been doing with the WW figures, so here goes.

First removed the cockpit from the chassis and carefully cut out the old figures arms, body and that appalling steering wheel.

I'll keep the body bits for my spares. Tidied up the cut and made some 1mm plasticard plates to fit over the old floor and back of the cockpit.

There wasn't much point to covering the underside as it won't be seen. Then I built up the head and shoulders WW figure as standard but I left off the neck spacer as it made him a little too high to fit under the roof. Glued together with the joins and mould lines sanded off he's all done.

I added a small piece of styrene tubing to complete the steering column.

Drilled a new hole and fixed him in place I think he gives the car a much better look :) Once painted I'll glue him down properly.

Just need to decide on a colour scheme now that'll complement the blue & yellow car, any ideas?

Mine is almost done!.. She is stock apart from Carson Chrome wheels, Oil CVA Shocks currently, Carbon shock tower brace and an HPI Saturn Motor. I'm just waiting for some custom body decals to be printed and we are ready to chew some dirt.

Do the CVA's fit no problem? I thought I read somewhere that there is a clearance issue with the HB shell?

They fit no prob at all Andy. Mine are off my Stadium Blitzer. I assume they are the norm. They are a direct swap.
