Picked up some RC stuff at the weekend, including this ex-"Tigerstripe" Ford Escort Cosworth!

Been after one of these since I was about 13 years old lol, but never got around to getting one till now.

It came RTR with standard 540, manual speed control and Futaba Radio Gear all round.

TA01 chassis is in good condition, gave it a quick bench test and it ran fine, gonna strip it down soon and rebuild it.

Cossie shell is in fair condition, whale tail is painted blue :) and there are a couple of couple of scuffs & small splits, one of the wing mirrors has damage and no tiger stripes... but she does have a nicly painted driver cockpit :)

Wheels are a bit poor

Anyway, here are some pics

Just realised I don't have a spare esc  so I'm gonna try pick up a TEU esc for this, and maybe run it with a sport tuned motor.

looks decent enough Wes

i have most of the tiger stripe decals if you need any, think the only ones that are cut are the front splitter and hockey sticks.

Cheers mate, will keep that in mind

On the other hand I'm also thinking about respraying the whale tail white, using some of my left over carbon vinyl wrap for the front splitter and changing the wheels to give it a Road look!

Not sure what colour/style of wheels to use though, might look at some 1:1 cosworths for inspiration.

Decisions Decisions!

Looks good!

I had one back in the 90's black fully tiger striped.

Sold it for a pittance

Cheers mate, I've always wanted one, ever since it was released back in the day, but never got my hands on one!

So I was very happy to finally add it to my collection last weekend, after an almost 20 year wait

i did exactly that, i put Cosworth style wheels from HPI on mine's and i toyed with the idea of a carbon splitter but was talked out of it. I might give it a go though cause the black decals really aren't that great on the front of it.

I'd like another Escos shell so i could carbon bonnet and roof it too but i might just leave that for a WRC shell instead as the Escos ones aren't cheap uncut and unpainted!

Will be keeping an eye on this thread <_<

Yes you're right mate, new cossie bodies are about £100, which is a joke!

If I apply a carbon splitter remove the remaining rally stickers, touch up the body with some white paint and tidy up some of the scuffs it should look ok.

Regarding the wheels, I tried out a couple of spare sets I have laying around

I think I'm gonna try find some new cossie reps, or maybe "Compomotive MO" style, but in white <_<

i'll post a pic of mine's on white montes and black montes at the weekend and give you an idea of what they're like on it

Cheers Kev, That would be cool, I've actually found some Gunmetal HPI RS wheels on fleebay, they do do look the part

looks like a great project wez have you seen the one on feebay with the focus rs decal sheet fitted ? looks good ,

make sure this projects a keeper lol you wanted one for that long , look fowards to the updates soon

regards

cad

Yes I've just seen it, interesting scheme, but it's based on the Mk6 Escort WRC, with a cossie whale tail, I don't really like the front end of the Mk6 Escort, but I quite like what that seller has done with the car.

These are the HPI R5 wheels in gunmetal I'm considering.

So I went back to my cossie project late last night, removed the few remaining rally decals from the body, tidied the body + cockpit it up a bit, and started cleaning the blue paint off of the spoiler using elbow grease!

I don't think I have any paint stripper laying around and I'm too lazy to go out and get some lol

Furthermore, the chassis has been stripped down and cleaned now, might post an "exploded" pic later

TA01 chassis has been stripped and cleaned now, just needs fresh oil in the dampers, rebuild the gearboxes and she'll be as good as new, well, apart from the body and wheels, which I still haven't sorted yet.

Gee that looks clean , nice pic's . Ya just can't beat the escort . B)

Cheers, yeah you're right, you can't beat an Escos

I can't believe I've never owned a 1:1 Escort Cosworth, baring in mind I've had 2 Celica GT4s, a Scooby then an Evo lol

I love my 4WD rally reps

I've stripped the paint off the Whale Tail spoiler now, not a bad job methinks.

I love MK1 Escorts, that's gonna be a future 1/10 project

Also managed to fix the broken wing mirror (on the left), the bit that goes into the body and is held buy a snap pin had broken off, easy fix though with epoxy.

Ok, now I'm thinking about these Tamiya Porsche Carrera GT Wheels - 51072.

Bit different, you don't normally see a Ford fitted with Porsche wheels, but I think these might suit my Escos. B)
