Falcon#5 594 Posted June 21, 2011 Okay, perhaps a bit silly, but did you try searching for 0.4M pinions? I get over 20,000 results on Google... Pinions to fit 2.5mm shafts are everywhere. Not any for 3.2mm. Might just have to change to the black gears....
Falcon#5 594 Posted August 6, 2011 I finally got the TA03 running. I swapped out the white Pro gearset with the black 0.6M set, as 0.4M pinions are too hard to find. Took it to the track today, and it's way undergeared. I was running a 17T motor pinion at first, then swapped it out with the 20T pinion from my M03, which gave a slight improvement. (I forgot to take the other 23T I have. ) So a few questions. What is the transmission ratio? What spur gear options are available, or is it limited to the stock 43T? I need a final drive ratio of around 3.5, so what are my options? I looked at Gearchart.com, but they don't have TA03. Going by the TA04 chart I'll need a 26T motor pinion. BTW, the belt pulleys are 15T, and I'm running HPI Vintage tyres with an outside diameter of 64mm. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
TA-Mark 195 Posted August 6, 2011 TA03 gear ratio chart. The belt pulleys willl not affect the FDR.
Falcon#5 594 Posted August 6, 2011 Awesome! Thanks very much TA-Mark.
Falcon#5 594 Posted August 6, 2011 After doing the calculations, a 28T motor pinion will only give me 4.25 FDR. Hmm, what to do...?
TA-Mark 195 Posted August 6, 2011 After doing the calculations, a 28T motor pinion will only give me 4.25 FDR. Hmm, what to do...? 28/43 will give 4.25:1, but will that fit though? The list shows all the possible combinations. There may not be enough movement in the slots or the motor hole to get a pinion that big in there. I'm getting about 60km/h from 14/43 with 2S Li-Po and 5700Kv brushless, with crazy acceleration.
tonysmini 19 Posted August 6, 2011 I found that the 21t pinion just cooked a silvercan, I used a 21t single wind motor with good results, but a brushless set up just brings them to life, even something as simple as a 12t Ezrun.
Falcon#5 594 Posted August 6, 2011 I'm sure I read somewhere that a 28T will fit, but I could be wrong. Will have to try find it again to confirm how big I can go. It's for VTA class, so I'm limited to a 21.5T BL motor. (Which is only 1600kv) All my problems would be solved if I could change to a faster motor.
Falcon#5 594 Posted August 6, 2011 It seems a 29T pinion will fit, but only with the 0.4 gears. 25T is the largest I can go with the 0.6 set. Seems like I'm in a bind. Guess I can try a 25T, and if I can't keep up, buy a new chassis?
